The 49ers are bringing back former defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, also the former New York Jets head coach, to return the defensive coordinator position on Kyle Shanahan’s coaching staff.
Saleh was the teams defensive coordinator from 2017-2020, and was a big part of the teams’ Super Bowl run back in 2019.
Congrats to Robert, & the 49ers for getting Saleh, who wasn’t, in my eyes, given a chance to succeed in New York, back with the franchise.
Reunion: After interviewing for three head coaching jobs, Robert Saleh is now officially returning to the #49ers as defensive coordinator, per sources.
Saleh impressed in interviews and now is back in a familiar place, with a chance to become a hot HC candidate again in 2026. pic.twitter.com/Jju2cu1qjj
