With the uncertainty surrounding the pending extension for 49ers star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, there are a lot of people who either aren’t sure whether the 49ers can keep him, & Brock Purdy, while also keeping the teams’ core together, and others who flat out say the 49ers can’t do it, but I’m here to show exactly how the 49ers can indeed keep their core together.

I’m will be covering not just 2024, 2025, but also 2026-2028’s salary cap’s, so as former 49ers great WR Terrell Owens would say “Get your popcorn ready, cause it’s gonna be a show”, and as my favorite WCW wrestler of all time, the ICON Sting would say “It’s Showtime”.

Now, we have to begin with the 2024 season, in which, as of now the 49ers have 91 players currently signed, the maximum allowed if you are carrying an international pathway program player, counting $281,998,258 against the 2024 salary cap, with $19,459,437 in dead money, as of now, for a total cap commitment of $301,457,695, putting them $30,379,539 under their adjusted salary cap of $296,557,234, which is a combination of a base $255.4 million cap, $36,395,265 in carryover from 2023, & $4,761,969 in adjustments.

Note that one asterisk means the player is one of the 6 players allowed on the practice squad that have more than 2 accrued seasons, while the two asterisk means that the player is apart of the international pathway program, which means he doesn’t count against the salary cap, or the practice squad limit, but he’s ineligible to play in a game during the 2024 season.

Ok, so with this roster the 49ers would have 72 players signed for the 2024 season, accounting for $251,336,045, along with $22,615,332 in dead money, for a total cap commitment of $273,951,367, leaving them $23,513,067 under their adjusted salary cap.

Next is the pending 2025 free agents with this roster.

As for 2025, the 49ers would have 37 players signed, before extending Ayiuk, with the 37 players accounting for $254,641,144, with $34,370,692 in dead money, for a total cap commitment of $289,111,836, which would put the team $9,111,836 over a projected $280 million cap for 2025, but that’s with just 37 players signed, and $20,871,836 over that $280 million projected cap, with 51 players signed, with the 14 players required to get to 51 making $840,000 each, which is the league minimum in 2025.

Below are the 37 players that they’d have under contract for 2025 under my current 2024 roster projection, with there cap numbers.

  37. LS 46 Taybor Pepper(2025)- $1,430,000

I have to note that quarterback Brock Purdy will see his 2025 base salary escsalate from the minimum of $1.1 million to whatever the 2nd-round RFA tender amount would be, which if the 2025 cap is indeed $280 million, then it should come in at around $5.361 million, which would be an increase of $470,000 from the 2024 number of $4.89 million, which would then be a $4.261 million increase to Purdy’s cap number, putting the 49ers $13,372,836 over a projected $280 million cap, but with just 37 players signed, and $25,132,836 over a projected $280 million cap, but with 51 players signed, again with the 14 players required to get to 51 players making $840,000 each.

Now, let’s go back to this season, where obviously, the 49ers want to get Brandon Aiyuk extended beyond 2024, & they can do this by giving him a 4-5 year extension, averaging $29 million a year, with a $25 million signing bonus this year, which would save the 49ers $7.999 million in salary cap room, which would give the 49ers $31,512,067 in cap room to enter the 2024 season.

When it comes down to guaranteed money, if I’m the 49ers, I give him $80 million in total guarantees, with between $40 million to $45 million being of it being fully guaranteed, which gives him more guaranteed money than what Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown got, which was $77 million, with $34.666 million of it being fully guaranteed, plus look for Aiyuk to want to beat St. Brown’s first 3-year cash flow, which comes in at around $63.386 million, so I’d look for Aiyuk to also beat that, somewhere in the $65 million range from 2024-2026, the same time frame of St. Brown’s deal.

As for the structure of the deal, I’d expect Aiyuk to get a 3 tier bonus structure, where he gets the aforementioned $25 million signing bonus, but also 2 option bonuses, 1 due in 2025, and 1 in 2026, with those being $15 million in 2025, & $12.5 million in 2026, with $8.5 million of his 2025 option bonus being fully guaranteed, sort of how the 49ers fully guaranteed $8.5 million of Christian McCaffrey’s 2025 option bonus.

When it comes to his salary cap numbers, I’d expect them to come in at $6.125 million for 2024, which is a $1.125 million fully guaranteed base salary, & $5 million prorated from his signing bonus, $12 million for 2025, which includes a $3.15 million fully guaranteed base salary, $5 million prorated from his signing bonus, $3 million prorated from his 2025 option bonus, a $750,000 per game roster bonus, & a $100,000 workout bonus, $25 million in 2026, which includes a $13.65 million base salary, $5 million prorated from his signing bonus, $3 million prorated from his 2025 option bonus, $2.5 million prorated from his 2026 option bonus, a $750,000 per game roster bonus, & a $100,000 workout bonus, $31.35 million in 2027, which includes a $20 million base salary, $5 million prorated from his signing bonus, $5 million prorated from his 2025 option bonus, $2.5 million prorated from his 2026 option bonus, a $750,000 per game roster bonus, & a $100,000 workout bonus, and finally $34.35 million in 2028, which includes a $23 million base salary, $5 million prorated from his signing bonus, $5 million prorated from his 2025 option bonus, $2.5 million prorated from his 2026 option bonus, a $750,000 per game roster bonus, & a $100,000, for a total deal worth $116.825 million, an average of $29,206,250 a year.

When it comes to his fully guaranteed money he’d get his 2024 base salary fully guaranteed, his 2025 base salary guaranteed, $5 million of his 2026 base salary fully guaranteed, with the remainder being fully guaranteed on April 1, 2025, his $25 million signing bonus, & $8.5 million of his 2025 option bonus being fully guaranteed, which comes out to be $42.775 million in fully guaranteed money.

As for the total guaranteed amount, that would come up to $80 million, which would include his 2024 base salary being fully guaranteed, his 2025 base salary being fully guaranteed, the $5 million of his 2026 base salary being fully guaranteed, with the other $8.65 million becoming fully guaranteed on April 1, 2025, along with $9.575 million of his 2027 base salary being guaranteed for injury, and becoming fully guaranteed on April 1, 2026, along with his $25 million signing bonus, his $15 million option bonus due in 2025, which would have $8.5 million of it being fully guaranteed, with the remaining $6.5 million becoming fully guaranteed once his option bonus is due, and his $12.5 million option bonus due in 2026, which would become fully guaranteed once the option bonus is due.

So, if we add Brandon Aiyuk to the 49ers 2025 salary cap commitment, they would end up being $25,372,836 over a projected cap of $280 million, with 38 players signed, and $36,292,836 over the projected $280 million cap, with 51 players signed, again with the difference, this time 13 players, making $840,000 each, but this doesn’t include the 49ers potential carryover amount, which as I stated, they’d be $31,512,067 under their 2024 adjusted cap, with the team likely setting aside $5 million for any roster moves made during the 2024 season, which would include new signings, players released, practice squad elevations, & paying back any per game roster bonuses earned by players, which would then give the 49ers $26,512,067 in potential carryover from 2024 into 2025.

Now, if we add in that $26,512,067 into a projected 2025 adjusted salary cap for the 49ers, which would give them a 2025 adjusted salary cap of $306,512,067, but this is before any potential adjustments, which are essentially credits for money given out to players, like base salary guarantees, per game roster bonuses that aren’t achieved that count against the cap, or LTBE incentives that aren’t attained, it can even include, unfortunately, NLTBE incentives that are attained, meaning that amount would get subtracted from whatever credits they’d get.

Without the potential adjustments included, the 49ers would end up being $1,139,231 under a projected 2025 adjusted cap of $306,512,067, with 38 players signed, and $9,780,769 over that projected 2025 adjusted cap, with the remaining 13 players needed to get to 51 players making $840,000 each.

But now let’s look at what the 49ers adjustments could look like.

First, players with base salary guarantees that aren’t on my projected 2024 53-man roster, either veterans, or UDFAs.

QB Brandon Allen – $400,000

RB Cody Schrader – $220,000

WR Chris Conley – $210,000

TE Mason Pline – $40,000

C Ben Bartch – $302,400

C Drake Nugent – $175,000

NT Evan Anderson – $250,000

FS Jaylen Mahoney – $27,000

That comes up to $1,624,400, which would have the 49ers $2,763,631 under a new 2025 adjusted cap of $308,136,467, but again with just 38 players signed, and $8,156,369 over that new projected 2025 adjusted cap.

Now, the 49ers have several LTBE incentives currently counting against the 2024 salary cap, so let’s look at those.

WR Deebo Samuel Sr. – $150,000, which is for having 3 or more rushing touchdowns.

C Jake Brendel – $500,000, which is for an unknown playtime percentage.

RT Colton McKivitz – $620,000, which is for an unknown playtime percentage.

CB Charvarius Ward – $500,000, which is broken down into $250,000 for making the Pro Bowl, and $250,000 for being named an All-Pro.

At this time, I won’t try to project whether or not any of the above 4 players will achieve or not achieve these LTBE incentives, but if they all are healthy, & play either as they did in 2023, or have similar playtime percentage, then they should all earn these.

Now, let’s look at the 49ers NLTBE incentives that don’t count against the 2024 salary cap.

WR Deebo Samuel Sr. – $500,000, which is for him reaching 380 or more rushing yards, which he has yet to do.

DE Leonard Floyd – $2 million, which is broken down like this, $500,000 for 8 or more sacks, $1 million for 10 or more sacks, & $2 million for 12 or more sacks, so in order to earn the full $2 million, he needs to have at least 12 sacks, which would be a great thing for the 49ers, as they haven’t had someone with double digit sacks, besides Nick Bosa, since Arik Armstead in 2020.

WLB Dre Greenlaw – $500,000, which is for making the Pro Bowl, which is possible, but it would mean that he’s ready to go week 1, but it’s more likely he doesn’t hit this, because despite having pretty damn good-great seasons in 20-22 & 2023, he wasn’t selected to the Pro Bowl.

SS George Odum – $1.5 million, but this is for unknown requirements, but it’s also possible that these were taken out of his contract when he signed a 2-year extension back before free agency began in March, but if they are in there, then $250,000 would be for being named to the Pro Bowl like he was in 2022.

P Mitch Wishnowsky – $450,000, which is broken down like this, $250,000 for being named to the Pro Bowl, $100,000 for net punting, & another $100,000 for punt percentage, unfortunately I don’t know the percentages for these incentives, but Wishnowsky earned the $100,000 for net punting back in 2022, but didn’t in 2023 as the 49ers didn’t punt at the same rate as they did in 2022.

All totaled, they add up to $4.95 million in potential incentives, but I don’t see all of these being earned, as Samuel has yet to reach 380 or more rushing yards, I don’t know how likely it is Floyd hits anywhere from 8-12 sacks to earn the $2 million, also if Greenlaw doesn’t begin the season on the 53-man roster, there’s literally no way he’d be named as a Pro Bowler, but I can see Odum, & Wishnowsky hitting some of the potential incentives, as 1. Odum is a great special teams ace, and 2. Wishnowsky is one of the best punters in the NFL, as he’s already reached the net punting incentive before, so it’s possible he could earn some of those $450,000 incentives, but for now I won’t try to project what potential NLTBE incentives are earned or not earned.

The last thing I want to mention about the 2024 season, they would need the following cap room to payback several players, for a total of $785,882.

RB Christian McCaffrey – $29,412
WR Deebo Samuel Sr. – $88,235
WR Jauan Jennings – $147,059
LT Trent Williams – $88,235
DE Yetur Gross-Matos – $150,000
DT Maliek Collins – $29,412
NT Javon Hargrave – $44,118
WLB Dre Greenlaw – $29,412
WLB De’Vondre Campbell – $120,000
SS George Odum – $60,000

Also in 2025, the 49ers can save quite a bit of salary cap room by restructuring deals or extending players, with them listed below.

WR Deebo Samuel – $12,344,423 (Extension or Restructure)

TE George Kittle – $10.516 million (Extension or Restructure)

LT Trent Williams – $16.996 million (Extension or Restructure)

NT Javon Hargrave – $14.916 million (Extension or Restructure)

MLB Fred Warner – $13.116 million (Extension or Restructure)

It’s also possible that the 49ers decide to extend Trent Williams’ contract this offseason, as there has been rumors that he might want a new deal, and if they did extend him this year, they would likely extend him through 2028, while resetting the left tackle market once again, likely in the $25.5 million a year range, as  Williams sits behind just Houston Texans’ Laremy Tunsil($25 million APY), & New York Giants’ Andrew Thomas($23.5 million APY).

As for guaranteed money, the current 5 highest paid left tackles, guaranteed money wise, are New York Giants’ Andrew Thomas($67 million, all fully guaranteed), Houston Texans’ Laremy Tunsil($60 million, $50 million fully guaranteed), Philadelphia Eagles’ Jordan Mailata($48 million, $41 million fully guaranteed), then it’s Trent Williams($45.1 million, $40.05 million fully guaranteed), and finally Las Vegas Raiders’ Kolton Miller($42.5 million, $25 million fully guaranteed), so I’d expect Williams would want more than what Jordan Mailata got, while potentially getting close enough to Laremy Tunsil, somewhere in the $55 million range, with $45 million of it being fully guaranteed.

If the 49ers did extend Trent Williams this offseason, before the 2024 season begins, the 49ers would save up to $15.072 million, while Williams would get a $18.84 million signing bonus, prorated over 5-years, at $3.768 million from 2024-2028.

The 49ers could also save cap room in 2024 if they can reach an extension with cornerback Charvarius Ward, who is set to count $12.298 million in 2025 in dead money, due to his original deal having 2 void years, & then when the 49ers restructured his deal in 2023, so with an extension, they could wipe out that $12.298 million in dead money for 2025, while having him then signed for the long term, plus they could likely get his 2025 cap number at or even below the $12.298 million dead money number.

If the did extend Charvarius Ward this offseason, before the 2024 season begins, the 49ers would save up to $9.148 million, while Ward would get a $11.435 million signing bonus, which would prorate over 5-years, at $2.287 million from 2024-2028, this is assuming they give Ward a 4-year extension, averaging somewhere in the $20 million a year range, which would put him inside the top 5 highest paid cornerbacks, right behind Green Bay Packers’ Jaire Alexander($21 million APY), & Cleveland Browns’ Denzel Ward($20.1 million APY), while he’d be tied with Miami Dolphins’ Jalen Ramsey($20 million APY), and right ahead of Baltimore Ravens’ Marlon Humphrey, who is at $19.5 million a year.

As for guaranteed money, the current top 5 highest cornerbacks are, Cleveland Browns’ Denzel Ward($71.25 million, $44.5 million fully guaranteed), Miami Dolphins’ Jalen Ramsey($71.203 million, $43.703 million fully guaranteed), New Orleans Saints’ Marshon Lattimore($68,346,588, $44,346,588 fully guaranteed), Baltimore Ravens’ Marlon Humphrey($66,957,407, $39,957,407 fully guaranteed), & Tennessee Titans’ L’Jarius Sneed($55 million, $51.5 million fully guaranteed), while currently Ward’s deal had $26.62 million guaranteed, with $18.06 million of it being fully guaranteed, so he’ll want a significant increase in guaranteed money, especially fully guaranteed money, I doubt the 49ers will go anywhere near Denzel Ward, Jalen Ramsey, & Marlon Humphrey’s guaranteed totals, but a deal along the lines of L’Jarius Sneed, with a bit over $55.5 million guaranteed, with somewhere in the range of $45 million fully guaranteed, which would put him only behind L’Jarius Sneed’s $51.5 million in fully guaranteed money.

If I had to bet on which of the two players, Trent Williams or Charvarius Ward, would be extended, I’d say it’s more likely Williams gets a new deal, as comments from Ward earlier in the offseason indicated he wanted to possible test the market in free agency, but he also has stated he hopes to be a 49er beyond 2024, so a deal before his current deal voids, which should be, according to OverTheCap.com, 5 days after the end of the 2025 Super Bowl, which is February 9, 2025, so Ward’s deal should void on February 14, 2025, so the 49ers will need to get a deal done before then to avoid the $12.298 million dead money hit, & if they were to re-sign him after the deal voids, he’d essentially have 2 cap hits, the $12.298 million in dead money, and whatever his 2025 cap number would be.

If the 49ers were to extend Trent Williams, they’d see their cap room for 2024 potentially increase from $31,512,067 all the way up to $46,584,067, while setting aside $5 million like I mentioned earlier, would give the 49ers potentially $41,584,067 in potential carryover, which would put the 49ers, before an Aiyuk extension, but with Purdy’s base salary increasing from $1.1 million to $5.361 million, $29,835,631 under a new projected 2025 adjusted salary cap of $328,208,467, but that is with just 37 players signed, and with enough to get to 51, they’d be $18,075,631 under that new projected 2025 adjusted salary cap.

Now, when we add in my Aiyuk deal, the 49ers’ salary cap goes down to $17,835,631, with just 38 players signed, and $6,915,631 under with enough players to get to 51 players under contract, which would be enough money to fill out there 2025 roster & sign their 2025 draft picks.

Now, if Charvarius Ward were to extend his deal before the 2024 season begins, they would see their 2024 cap room increase from $46,584,067 to $55,732,067, while again setting aside $5 million in cap room for in season roster moves, which would give them potentially $50,732,067 in carryover from 2024 to 2025, which would, with the Trent Williams extension, a new projected 2025 adjusted salary cap of $332,356,467, the 49ers would be $26,983,631 under that new projected 2025 adjusted cap, with just 39 players signed, and $16,903,631 under with enough players to get to 51 players under contract.

I should note that any extension for Trent Williams would most likely lower his 2025, & maybe his 2026 salary cap number, which would give them even more salary cap room, but that’s tough to project, as they could save up to $16.996 million in 2025 with an extension or restructure, this is if the 49ers weren’t to extend him this offseason, but rather in 2025.

Now, the other elephant in the room so to speak is the expected extension for quarterback Brock Purdy, who will likely get somewhere in the $55 million to $60 million a year range, which would most likely be a 5-year extension through 2030, with somewhere in the range of $215 million to $225 million in guaranteed money, with somewhere in the range of $145 million to $150 million of it being fully guaranteed, and they can give him a $55 million signing bonus, which would prorate at $11 million a year from 2025-2029, while he likely would get an option bonus in both 2026, & 2027, just like the 49ers have done with Nick Bosa in 2023, Christian McCaffrey this offseason, and most likely Brandon Aiyuk, as well as option bonuses in 2028 & 2029 like the Jacksonville Jaguars gave their star quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

The 49ers could also lower his 2025 base salary back down from $5.361 million to $1.1 million, the league minimum for the amount of accrued years he has, which would give him a $12,119,253 2025 salary cap number, which would also include the remaining $19,253 of proration from his initial signing bonus, while I’d expect the option bonuses to be somewhere in the range of $35 million for 2026, $35 million for 2027, $35 million for 2028, $20 million for 2029, with those prorating at $7 million from 2026-2030 for the 2026 option bonus, $7 million from 2027-2031 for the 2027 option bonus, $7 million from 2028-2032 for the 2028 option bonus, and $4 million from 2029-2033 for his 2029 option bonus.

As for his 2026-2028 salary cap numbers, the 49ers would likely get Purdy to take the minimum base salaries for both years, which would be $1.17 million for 2026, & $1.215 million for 2027, while he’d have $750,000 per game roster bonuses in every year except 2025, & $100,000 workout bonuses, also in every year except 2025, so his 2026 cap number would end up being $20.02 million, which would include a fully guaranteed $1.17 million base salary, $11 million prorated from his signing bonus, $7 million prorated from his 2026 option bonus, a $750,000 per game roster bonus, & a $100,000 workout bonus, while in 2027, his cap number would end up being $27.065 million, which includes a fully guaranteed $1.215 million base salary, $11 million prorated from his signing bonus, $7 million prorated from his 2026 option bonus, $7 million prorated from his 2027 option bonus, a $750,000 per game roster bonus, & a $100,000 workout bonus, $64.85 million in 2028, which includes a $32 million base salary, $11 million prorated from his signing bonus, $7 million prorated from his 2026 option bonus, $7 million from his 2027 option bonus, a $750,000 per game roster bonus, & a $100,000 workout bonus, $68.85 million in 2029, which would include a $32 million base salary, $7 million prorated from his signing bonus, $7 million prorated from his 2026 option bonus, $7 million prorated from his 2027 option bonus, $7 million prorated from his 2028 option bonus, a $750,000 per game roster bonus, & a $100,000 workout bonus.

As for 2029, & 2030’s salary cap numbers, they’d be $57.85 million in 2029, which includes a $32 million base salary, $7 million prorated from his 2026 option bonus, $7 million prorated from his 2027 option bonus, $7 million prorated from his 2028 option bonus, $4 million prorated from his 2029 option bonus, a $750,000 per game roster bonus, & a $100,000 workout bonus, & $58.615 million in 2030, which would include a $39.765 million base salary, $7 million prorated from his 2027 option bonus, $7 million prorated from his 2028 option bonus, $4 million prorated from his 2029 option bonus, a $750,000 per game roster bonus, & a $100,000 workout bonus, so all in total, the deal would be worth $277.5 million, an average of $55.5 million a year.

When it comes to his fully guaranteed money, it would consist of his 2025 base salary, his 2026 base salary, his 2027 base salary, $29.355 million of his 2028 base salary, with the remainder being fully guaranteed on April 1, 2027, a $55 million signing bonus, his $35 million 2026 option bonus, and his $35 million 2027 option bonus, which comes out to $157.84 million fully guaranteed.

As for the total guaranteed money, he’d get $215.485 million guaranteed, which includes his 2025 $1.1 million base salary, his $1.17 million 2026 base salary, his $1.215 million 2027 base salary, $29.355 of his 2028 base salary being fully guaranteed, the remaining $2.645 million becomes fully guaranteed on April 1, 2027, his $55 million signing bonus, his 2026 $35 million option bonus, his 2027 $35 million option bonus, along with a 2028 $35 million option bonus, which would be guaranteed for injury, & fully guaranteed on April 1, 2027, and a 2029 $20 million option bonus, which would be guaranteed for injury, and fully guaranteed on April 1, 2028.

I need to mention that the deal will most definitely have void years in it, so with all of the option bonuses, there would be a $33 million dead money hit in 2031, while with Brandon Aiyuk there would be a $12.285 million dead money hit in 2029.

When it comes to the 2026-2029 salary cap outlook, the 49ers have a ton of cap room tied up as pending dead money, with them below.

2026:

TE George Kittle – $13,625,000
WR Deebo Samuel Sr. – $8,493,000
WR Jauan Jennings – $8,210,000
DE Leonard Floyd – $6,474,000
DE Yetur Gross-Matos – $4,959,000
RT Colton McKivitz – $2,338,000
FB Kyle Juszczyk – $1,674,000
DT Jordan Elliott – $1,395,000

2027:

NT Javon Hargrave – $10,130,000
MLB Fred Warner – $9,479,000
LT Trent Williams – $3,647,000
C Jake Brendel – $682,000

2028:

RB Christian McCaffrey – $14,866,000

2029:

DE Nick Bosa – $5,803,105

Now, when it comes to the dead money for 2026, there are several players who I can see being extended before their deals void, with those being, wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr., & tight end George Kittle in 2025, which would help clear there combined $22.118 million in dead money, and I just can’t see the 49ers, especially Kyle Shanhan, let either Samuel, or Kittle to be let go, especially if they produce, stay healthy, and don’t show signs of their play going downhill.

As for 2027, I can see the 49ers getting middle linebacker Fred Warner signed to a new long term deal by 2026, maybe even in 2025, as he’s set to count $9.479 million in dead money, any deal for Warner would have to reset the off-ball linebacker market, which as of now Baltimore Ravens’ Roquan Smith is at the top, averaging $20 million a year, while Warner is second at $19.045 million a year, as for guaranteed money, Smith leads the way with $60 million, of which $45 million of it fully guaranteed, then comes Chicago Bears’ Tremaine Edmunds, who has $50 million in guaranteed money, of which $41.8 million of it being fully guaranteed, and Warner is third with $40.5 million guaranteed, of which $27.5 million is fully guaranteed, so I’d expect Warner to look to get above what Smith & Edmunds got.

As for 2028, there’s only one player set to count as dead money, running back Christian McCaffrey, and if he’s still producing, is healthy, and isn’t showing signs of going downhill, the 49ers would be dumb to not give him another new deal, as he signed a 2-year, $38 million extension, with $24 million in guaranteed money, all of which is fully guaranteed, which puts him fourth overall in total guarantees, & second in fully guaranteed money, while he’s already the highest paid running back at $19 million a year.

As for 2029, there’s just one player set to count as dead money, defensive end Nick Bosa, who is the teams’ best EDGE rusher, but as long as Bosa is still going strong over the next 5-years, then the 49ers will definitely bring Bosa back.

Now, if the 49ers do indeed extend running back Christian McCaffrey, wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr., tight end George Kittle, defensive end Nick Bosa, & middle linebacker Fred Warner, they’d all likely get more of short term extensions, in the 3-year, or 4-year range, with the exception of Bosa, & Warner, who would likely get more of a long term deal, & any extensions before their deals void would wipe out their dead money amounts.

When it comes to the other players that are set to have dead money in either 2026, or 2027, some of them could be extended, depending on how well they play, if right tackle Colton McKivitz ends up improving over the next 2-years, then in 2026 he could see another extension, the same goes for defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos, depending on how well he does for the 49ers over the next 2-years, while I doubt defensive end Leonard Floyd would be back beyond 2025, he’s set to count $6.474 million in 2026 in dead money, and I just don’t see him as part of the 49ers future, as he’s an older player, who was likely brought into to 1. Help improve the pass rush, and 2. Help mentor the younger guys.

Finally, when it comes to dead money, Nick Bosa is scheduled to have a $5,803,105 dead money hit in 2029.

Now, if we add both Brock Purdy, & Brandon Aiyuk’s extensions to 2026-2028, the 49ers salary cap would look like the following below.

2025: $4,023,631 under with 38 players signed, $6,896,369 over with 51 players signed on a projected $280 million salary cap.
2026: $44,217,305 under with 25 players signed, $21,207,305 under with 51 players signed on a projected $305 million salary cap.
2027: $155,038,812 under with 11 players signed, $117,838,812 under with 51 players signed on a projected $335 million salary cap.
2028: $199,905,895 under with 3 players signed, $153,105,895 under with 51 players signed on a projected $355 million salary cap.

I didn’t include extensions for both Trent Williams, & Charvarius Ward, for now, but if the 49ers were to extend Williams next year, they could save up to $17 million in salary cap room, while extending Ward this year would save $9.148 million, while wiping out his 2025 dead money hit of $12.298 million.

Other than extensions for Trent Williams, & Charvarius Ward, the 49ers don’t have many other ways of creating salary cap room, as Williams has the second highest base salary, at $20.05 million, and Ward has the fourth highest base salary at $12.56 million, while the only other options for saving cap room would be to restructure either Deebo Samuel Sr., or Dre Greenlaw’s contract, which would save the team $15,877,600 with a Samuel restructure, and $5.58 million for Greenlaw, but I doubt either of them will have their contract restructured, so the 49ers would need to reach a new deal with either Williams, or Ward to save cap room to rollover.

Now when it comes to who the 49ers could look to re-sign after 2024, I’d think they’d look at hard at keeping weakside linebacker Dre Greenlaw, & cornerbacks Charvarius Ward, & Deommodore Lenoir, while I see the 49ers most likely lose the likes of running back Elijah Mitchell, left guard Aaron Banks, & strong safety Talanoa Hufanga after 2024, as I just don’t see the 49ers spending RB2 money on Mitchell when they just drafted Isaac Guerendo, nor will they pay an IOL $10 million or more a year, and I don’t see the 49ers paying top tier safety money, so I expect all 3 will not return in 2025.

Also, there’s the fact that the 49ers drafted running back Isaac Guerendo, left guard Dominick Puni, right guard Jarrett Kingston, and strong safety Malik Mustapha in this years draft, so it pretty much makes Mitchell, Banks, & Hufanga expendable.

I also don’t know if the 49ers will be able to bring back cornerback Isaac Yiadom, especially if he plays his way out of the 49ers price range, while others like tight ends Eric Saubert, & Logan Thomas, right tackle Chris Hubbard, defensive tackle Kevin Givens, & strongside linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles are easily replaceable.

Plus, the fact that the 49ers have drafted 2 tight ends, Cameron Latu, & Brayden Willis, plus the 49ers have drafted a few linebackers over the past 2 drafts, Dee Winters, Jalen Graham, & Tatum Bethune, as well as drafting 2 interior offensive lineman this year, Dominick Puni, & Jarrett Kingston, plus Spencer Burford in the 2022 draft, & they’ve drafted several cornerbacks over the last 3 drafts, Renardo Green, Darrell Luter Jr., & Samuel Womack III shows that the 49ers are thinking about the future beyond 2024, while the only position that they haven’t drafted in the past 3 drafts, like a right tackle.

As for players like right guard Jon Feliciano, defensive tackle Kevin Givens, weakside linebacker De’Vondre Campbell, & cornerback Rock Ya-Sin are players that shouldn’t be too hard to bring back on cheap 1-year deals, although I doubt the 49ers bring Campbell back in 2025, especially if they’re able to retain Dre Greenlaw.

If the 49ers do extend or restructure Trent Williams’ deal, they’d save $15.072 million in cap room, which would be carryover into 2025, which would give the team enough cap room to retain the likes of Greenlaw, & Lenoir, both of whom should be apart of their long term core.

It’s also possible that the 49ers look to extend either Greenlaw, and/or Lenoir, which would also save some cap room in 2024, $5.58 million if they extend Greenlaw, which would wipe out his pending dead money hit of $1,864,766, while the 49ers could save some cap room by extending Lenoir, who has a $3.116 million base salary, which could be lowered down to the league minimum of $1.055 million, which would save the 49ers $1,648,800 in salary cap room, while he’d get a $2.061 million signing bonus, but I’m not sure if Lenoir would take only a $2.061 million signing bonus, but if I’m the 49ers I try my best to extend Lenoir before next offseason, before his price goes up, it just depends on how the 49ers view him, is he an outside cornerback, or a slot cornerback, which would make a huge difference in the 49ers offer.

Either way, I truly believe that 49ers can afford to hold onto both Dre Greenlaw, & Deommodore Lenoir, as well as not have to get rid of any of their core players, namely wide receiver Deebo Samuel, and I believe that wide receiver Jauan Jennings will most likely leave in free agency after the 2025 season, but he’d still count $8.21 million in dead money for the 2026 season.

Also, if the 49ers do extend Samuel, & also tight end George Kittle, they would be able to save as much as $12,344,423 for Samuel, & as much as $10.516 million for Kittle, while being able to wipe out the pending $22.118 million in dead money for 2026, and I’d expect the 49ers to do the same thing they did with Christian McCaffrey, extending to 3-years, with low cap hits for 2025-2027.

Finally, for the what the cap numbers would be for the players under contract from 2025-2030 are below, including my extensions for Brock Purdy, & Brandon Aiyuk.

2025:

  1. QB 13 Brock Purdy(2030)- $12,119,253
  2. RB 23 Christian McCaffrey(2027)- $9,806,000
  3. RB 49 Isaac Guerendo(2027)- $1,136,132
  4. FB 44 Kyle Juszczyk(2025)- $6,496,750
  5. WR 1 Deebo Samuel Sr.(2025)- $24,200,529
  6. WR 11 Brandon Aiyuk(2028)- $12,000,000
  7. WR 15 Jauan Jennings(2025)- $4,258,000
  8. WR 14 Ricky Pearsall(2027)- $2,849,635
  9. WR 83 Jacob Cowing(2027)- $1,092,117

  11. TE 81 Cameron Latu(2026)- $1.446,568

So, no matter what the 49ers end up doing in 2024, & 2025, the 49ers will be just fine salary cap wise going forward, while being able to keep their core together in the long run, which I envision a core of quarterback Brock Purdy, running back Christian McCaffrey, wide receivers Deebo Samuel Sr., & Brandon Aiyuk, tight end George Kittle, defensive end Nick Bosa, weakside linebacker Dre Greenlaw, middle linebacker Fred Warner, & cornerbacks Charvarius Ward, & Deommodore Lenoir, with the potential for left tackle Trent Williams, and nose tackle Javon Hargrave to be apart of that core, along with the young players like running back Isaac Guerendo, wide receivers Ricky Pearsall, & Jacob Cowing, left guard Dominick Puni, strongside linebacker Dee Winters, middle linebackers Jalen Graham, cornerback Renardo Green, free safety Ji’Ayir Brown, & strong safety Malik Mustapha also being key to the 49ers success going forward.

The hope, for me anyway, is that tight ends Cameron Latu, & Brayden Willis end up being solid long term answers at tight end, same goes for right guards Spencer Burford, & Jarrett Kingston being a long term answer at right guard, & I think there’s a hope that either nose tackles Kalia Davis, or Evan Anderson can become a long term fixture along the 49ers interior defensive line.

Now going forward, the 49ers will have to make decisions on several players that will be free agents after 2025, like fullback Kyle Juszczyk, right guard Spencer Burford, right tackle Colton McKivitz, defensive end Drake Jackson, & defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos, defensive tackles Maliek Collins & Jordan Elliott.

Of the players I listed above, Juszczyk, McKitiz, Gross-Matos, & Elliott all have pending dead money totaling $10.366 million, so the 49ers will either have to bring the ones who they believe are worth bringing back or find replacements for the ones they don’t bring back for 2026.

I do believe there’s a hope inside the 49ers organization that McKivitz can end up being a long term answer at right tackle, as well as Gross-Matos and/or Jackson really break out, which would really help the 49ers in finding a long term solution opposite Nick Bosa at the edge rusher position.

As for Collins, & Elliott, I’m not sure they’re really part of the 49ers long term plans, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to retain Collins, especially if he proves to be a good replacement for the now Jacksonville Jaguars’ Arik Armstead, while Elliott likely would be a guy that the 49ers would just let walk, and if they do want him back, a new deal wouldn’t be expensive, whereas Collins could cost way more than Elliott.

When it comes to Juszczyk, I can see it going either way, on one hand he’s just a unique player, versatile, who does everything asked of him, whether it’s lined up as a fullback, blocking for McCaffrey, or lining up in the slot, being a reliable pass catching option, especially when lined up at tight end, but on the other hand Juszczyk is the highest paid fullback at $4.55 million a year, so while he sometimes seems like a luxury, I think he’s one of those guys who will be very hard to replace.

Anyway, I really do hope that this article will put people’s concerns to rest, & also disproves those who say that the 49ers have to choose between Brandon Aiyuk & Deebo Samuel in 2025, which is completely not the case as shown in this article.

After thinking over what I wrote, I decided to add onto it, with a different projected roster, in which UDFAs running back Cody Schrader, center Drake Nugent, & nose tackle Evan Anderson end up making the 53-man roster, so below is a new, alternate roster projection.

OFFENSE:

QB(2): 13 Brock Purdy(2025), & 5 Joshua Dobbs(2024)

FS(2): 27 Ji’Ayir Brown(2026), & 43 Malik Mustapha(2027)

SS(2): 29 Talanoa Hufanga(2024), & 30 George Odum(2026)

PRACTICE SQUAD:

QB 17 Brandon Allen*
RB 24 Jordan Mason
WR 18 Chris Conley*
WR 10 Ronnie Bell
TE 82 Eric Saubert*
TE 89 Mason Pline
C 78 Ben Bartch*
RG 62 Jarrett Kingston
LT 60 Isaac Alarcón**
RT 61 Chris Hubbard*
DE 58 Alex Barrett
DT 60 Shakel Brown
SLB 47 Ezekiel Turner*
SLB 48 Tatum Bethune
CB 0 Samuel Womack III
CB 26 Chase Lucas
FS 49 Jaylen Mahoney

Note that one asterisk next to the player means that they’re one of the maximum number of 6 players allowed on the practice squad that have more than 2 accrued season, while two asterisks means that the player is part of the NFL’s international pathway program, so he doesn’t count against the cap, or against the practice squad limit, but he’s not eligible to play during the 2024 season.

Now, with this roster, the 49ers would have 72 players under contract for the 2024 season, with them accounting for $250,698,364, with $22,953,003 in dead money, for a total cap commitment of $273,651,367, leaving them $23,813,067 under their 2024 adjusted cap of $297,464,434.

Below would be the teams’ pending free agents.

UFA:

QB Joshua Dobbs
RB Elijah Mitchell
WR Brandon Aiyuk
TE Logan Thomas
LG Aaron Banks
RG Jon Feliciano
RT Brandon Parker
DT Kevin Givens
SLB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles
WLB Dre Greenlaw
WLB De’Vondre Campbell
CB Charvarius Ward
CB Deommodore Lenoir
CB Isaac Yiadom
CB Rock Ya-Sin
SS Talanoa Hufanga

The team wouldn’t have any exclusive rights free agents, or restricted free agents with this projected roster.

I’d still go with the same Brandon Aiyuk extension that I have in this article, which would save the 49ers $7.999 million, giving the 49ers $31,812,067 in cap room to enter the 2024 season, with the team likely to set aside $5 million for in season roster moves, which as I’ve said before, include new signings, players being released, practice squad elevations, & per game roster bonuses that will be paid back to the players, as they don’t count against the cap, so the 49ers will have to have cap room to basically payback these players, which under my roster include the following 10.

RB Christian McCaffrey – $29,412
WR Deebo Samuel Sr. – $88,235
WR Jauan Jennings – $147,500
LT Trent Williams – $88,235
DE Yetur Gross-Matos – $150,000
DT Maliek Collins – $29,412
NT Javon Hargrave – $44,118
WLB Dre Greenlaw – $29,412
WLB De’Vondre Campbell – $120,000
SS George Odum – $60,000

These 10 players add up to $785,882, and with the $5 million being set aside, the 49ers should be able to carryover around $26,812,067 into 2025.

As for potential adjustments/credits, they would end up with the following for the players on their practice squad who received guaranteed money in their 2024 base salary.

QB Brandon Allen – $400,000

WR Chris Conley – $210,000

TE Eric Saubert – $400,000

TE Mason Pline – $40,000

C Ben Bartch – $302,400

RT Chris Hubbard – $300,000

FS Jaylen Mahoney – $27,000

These 7 players combine for $1,679,400 in potential adjustments/credits

Now when it comes to 2025, the 49ers would have 40 players signed, accounting for $272,806,547, with $34,536,483 in dead money, for a total cap commitment of $307,343,030, leaving them $1,166,437 under their projected 2025 adjusted salary cap of $308,509,467, which includes a base salary cap of $280 million, $26,812,067 in carryover from 2024, & $1,697,400 in adjustments/credits, but that $1,116,437 is with just the 40 players under contract, so with 51 players, making the minimum of $840,000 in 2025, they’d be just $8,073,563 over their projected 2025 adjusted salary cap.

Below are those 40 players with their 2025 cap numbers.

  1. QB 13 Brock Purdy(2025)- $5,380,253
  2. RB 23 Christian McCaffrey(2027)- $9,806,000
  3. RB 49 Isaac Guerendo(2027)- $1,136,132
  4. RB 38 Cody Schrader(2026)- $964,000
  5. FB 44 Kyle Juszczyk(2025)- $6,496,750
  6. WR 1 Deebo Samuel Sr.(2025)- $24,200,529
  7. WR 11 Brandon Aiyuk(2028)- $12,000,000
  8. WR 15 Jauan Jennings(2025)- $4,258,000
  9. WR 14 Ricky Pearsall(2027)- $2,849,635
  10. WR 83 Jacob Cowing(2027)- $1,092,117
  11. TE 85 George Kittle(2025)- $22,085,000
  12. TE 81 Cameron Latu(2026)- $1.446,568
  13. TE 9 Brayden Willis(2026)- $1,049,975
  14. C 64 Jake Brendel(2026)- $4,447,000
  15. C 66 Drake Nugent(2026)- $965,000
  16. LG 77 Dominick Puni(2027)- $1,295,579
  17. RG 74 Spencer Burford(2025)- $1,268,014
  18. LT 71 Trent Williams(2026)- $34,106,777
  19. RT 68 Colton McKivitz(2025)- $4,678,000
  20. DE 97 Nick Bosa(2028)- $20,519,105
  21. DE 56 Leonard Floyd(2025)- $10,108,000
  22. DE 94 Yetur Gross-Matos(2025)- $9,653,000
  23. DE 95 Drake Jackson(2025)- $1,874,852
  24. DE 51 Robert Beal Jr.(2026)- $1,091,245
  25. DT 99 Maliek Collins(2025)- $10,000,000
  26. DT 92 Jordan Elliott(2025)- $3,465,000
  27. NT 98 Javon Hargrave(2026)- $28,125,000
  28. NT 93 Kalia Davis(2025)- $1,133,003
  29. NT 66 Evan Anderson(2026)- $970,000
  30. WLB 53 Dee Winters(2026)- $1,063,333
  31. MLB 54 Fred Warner(2026)- $29,147,000
  32. MLB 50 Jalen Graham(2026)- $1,049,446
  33. CB 31 Renardo Green(2027)- $1,452,244
  34. CB 28 Darrell Luter Jr.(2026)- $1,108,378
  35. FS 27 Ji’Ayir Brown(2026)- $1,471,583
  36. SS 30 George Odum(2026)- $3,971,666
  37. SS 43 Malik Mustapha(2027)- $1,144,734
  38. PK 4 Jake Moody(2026)- $1,446,588
  39. P 3 Mitch Wishnowsky(2026)- $3,050,000
  40. LS 46 Taybor Pepper(2025)- $1,430,000

Note that I’ve included Brock Purdy’s projected base salary increase from the minimum of $1.1 million to $5.361 million, that’s if the cap does come in at $280 million, which is a $4.261 million difference.

As I showed earlier in this article, the 49ers can save cap room in 2025 from the following players.

WR Deebo Samuel – $12,344,423 (Extension or Restructure)

TE George Kittle – $10.516 million (Extension or Restructure)

LT Trent Williams – $16.996 million (Extension or Restructure)

NT Javon Hargrave – $14.916 million (Extension or Restructure)

MLB Fred Warner – $13.116 million (Extension or Restructure)

I’d expect the 49ers to either extend, or restructure Trent Willams’ deal, like I said earlier in this article, which if they did it in 2024, they’d be able to save up to $16.996 million in cap room, while also being able to lower his 2025, & 2026 salary cap numbers, which are currently set to be $34,106,777 in 2025, & $37,796,781 in 2026, while also adding on 2 more years to his deal, which would then mean he’s signed through 2028.

If they do extend Trent Williams this offseason, before the 2024 season begins, they could save up to $15.072 million, & they could probably get his 2025 salary cap number down by $10 million, & his 2026 salary cap number down by $8 million, which would be huge for the 49ers salary cap going forward.

If we add in a Williams extension, the 49ers would end up having $46,884,067 in salary cap room entering the 2024 season, but with them setting aside $5 million, they’d be able to carryover $41,884,067 into 2025, which would put the 49ers $16,238,437 under their projected 2025 adjusted cap of $323,581,467, but that’s with 40 players signed, but also not including the projected $10 million that they could save in 2025, while they’d be $6,998,437 under their projected 2025 salary cap, but that’s with 51 players signed, and doesn’t include the $10 million in potential savings from Trent Williams’ extension.

If we add $10 million to the above salary cap space, they’d have $26,238,437 in cap room, with 40 players signed, and $16,998,437 in cap room, with 51 players signed.

The 49ers can also save up to $9.148 million by extending Charvarius Ward this offseason, before the 2024 season begins, which would also wipe out his pending dead money hit of $12.298 million in 2025, while being able to get his 2025 cap number at, or below that $12.298 million number, which would give the 49ers $56,032,067 in salary cap room entering the 2024 season, setting aside $5 million would then give them around $51,032,067 in potential carryover from 2024 to 2025.

As for their 2025 cap after Ward’s extension, plus Williams’ extension, they would be $36,386,437 under their projected 2025 adjusted salary cap, with the 41 players signed for 2025, and $29,986,437 under their projected 2025 adjusted salary cap, with 51 players signed, with the remaining 10 players making the minimum of $840,000 each.

If the 49ers decided to not extend Trent Williams’ contract, and just extend Charvarius Ward’s contract, they’d be $40,960,067 under their 2024 adjusted salary cap, with them setting aside $5 million, meaning they’d be able to carryover $35,960,067, leaving them $10,314,437 under their projected 2025 adjusted salary cap, with 41 players signed, and $1,914,437 under their projected 2025 adjusted salary cap, with 51 players signed, so the 49ers would need to do something with a players contract, with either Trent Williams, or Fred Warner restructuring their contracts, which saves the team $16.996 million for Williams, & $13.116 million for Warner, and of the two, I think Warner makes the most sense, especially if they’re not willing to extend Williams’ deal, as Warner is still a young player, and should end up with an extension, possible even in 2025, or more likely 2026, which would see him reset the off-ball linebacker market.

As for the off-ball linebacker market, right now Warner trails only Baltimore Ravens’ Roquan Smith at $20 million a year, so I’d expect Warner to get anywhere from $20.5 million to $23 million a year on average.

As for guaranteed money, Warner is third with $40.5 million, trailing only Smith at $60 million, & Chicago Bears’ Tremaine Edmunds at $40.5 million, while Warner is also third in fully guaranteed money, with $27.5 million, trailing Smith at $45 million, & Edmunds at $41.8 million, so Warner will likely want to beat both Smith’s $60 million guaranteed, and his $50 million in fully guaranteed money, likely on a more longer contract than someone like Christian McCafftey, Deebo Samuel Sr., George Kittle, & Trent Williams would end up getting on new deals, which I do believe the 49ers will keep both Samuel, & Kittle past both 2024 & 2025.

Now, with either of the potential salary cap amounts after the extensions of Trent Williams and/or Charvarius Ward’s extensions, the 49ers would have cap room to bring back the likes of weakside linebacker Dre Greenlaw, & cornerback Deommodore Lenoir on long term deals, averaging $12 million for Greenlaw, & $10 million for Lenoir.

As for a potential Ward extension, I would sign him to a 4-year extension, worth $20 million a year, tying him with Miami Dolphins’ Jalen Ramsey, and just above Baltimore Ravens’ Marlon Humphrey, while he’d get a $11.435 million signing bonus in 2024, which prorates at $2.287 million from 2024-2028, along with a $12.5 million option bonus due in 2025

Going back to 2024, if the 49ers extend both Trent Williams, & Charvarius Ward, the 49ers would have 72 players signed, accounting for $218,479,364, with $22,953,003 in dead money, for a total cap commitment of $241,432,367, leaving them $56,032,067 under their 2024 adjusted salary cap of $297,464,434 heading into the 2024 season.

As for what kind of deal Trent Williams & Charvarius Ward would get, I’d expect for Williams, a 2-year extension, worth $51 million, averaging $25.5 million a year, and as for Ward, a 4-year extension, worth $80 million, averaging $20 million a year.

As for their cap numbers, for 2024 they would end up going down to $16,496,542 for Williams, & $9.253 million for Ward, which are savings of $15.072 million for Williams, & $9,148 million for Ward, giving them the aforementioned $56,032,067 in cap room, with $51,032,067 being carried over into 2025.

For Trent Williams’ deal, he’d get a $18.84 million signing bonus, prorated at $3.768 million from 2024-2028, along with a fully guaranteed 2024 base salary of $1.21 million, a fully guaranteed 2025 base salary of $8.5 million, a fully guaranteed 2026 base salary, along with a $20 million option bonus due in 2025, of which $10.5 million is fully guaranteed, with the remaining $9.5 million becoming fully guaranteed on April 1, 2025.

He’d have the following cap numbers, $16,496,542 in 2024, consisting of a fully guaranteed $1.21 million base salary, $6.02 million prorated from his original 2021 signing bonus, $3.768 million prorated from his new 2024 signing bonus, $1,089,777 prorated from his 2022 restructure, $3.647 million prorated from his 2023 restructure, a $750,000 per game roster bonus, with $661,765 counting against the cap, & a $100,000 workout bonus, $24,016,777 in 2025, which includes a fully guaranteed $4.642 million base salary, $6.02 million prorated from his original 2021 signing bonus, $3.768 million prorated from his new 2024 signing bonus, $1,089,777 prorated from his 2022 restructure, $3.647 million prorated from his 2023 restructure, $4 million prorated from his 2025 option bonus, a $750,000 per game roster bonus, & a $100,000 workout bonus, $29,162,781 in 2026, which includes a fully guaranteed $15.808 million base salary, $3.768 million prorated from his new 2024 signing bonus, $1,089,781 prorated from his 2022 restructure, $3.647 million prorated from his 2023 restructure, $4 million from his 2025 option bonus, a $750,000 per game roster bonus, & a $100,000 workout bonus.

As for his 2027, & 2028 cap numbers, they’d be $27.765 million in 2027, which includes a $15.5 million base salary, $3.768 million prorated from his new 2024 signing bonus, $3.674 million prorated from his 2023 restructure, $4 million prorated from his 2025 option bonus, a $750,000 per game roster bonus, & a $100,000 workout bonus, and $24.118 million in 2028, which would include a $15.5 million base salary, $3.768 million prorated from his new 2024 signing bonus, $4 million from his 2025 option bonus, a $750,000 per game roster bonus, & a $100,000 workout bonus.

When it comes to Williams’ fully guaranteed money, he’d get $51 million, which includes a $18.84 million signing bonus, a $1.21 million fully guaranteed 2024 base salary, a $4.642 million fully guaranteed 2025 base salary, a fully guaranteed $15.808 million 2026 base salary, and $10.5 million of his $20 million option bonus due in 2025, with the rest becoming fully guaranteed on April 1, 2025.

As for overall guaranteed money, Williams would get a total of $60.5 million, which includes his 2024 base salary, his 2025 base salary, his 2026 base salary, a $18.84 million signing bonus, & a $20 million option bonus due in 2025.

The 49ers would end up clearing $15.072 million in cap room in 2024, $10 million in 2025, & $8.634 million in 2026.

As for Charvarius Ward’s extension, he’d get a $11.435 million signing bonus, his 2024 base salary fully guaranteed, his 2025 base salary fully guaranteed, his 2026 base salary, along with a $12.5 million option bonus due in 2025, with $10 million of it being fully guaranteed, and a $16.185 million option bonus due in 2026, with $12.5 million of it being fully guaranteed.

He’d have the following cap numbers, $9.253 million in 2024, which incudes a fully guaranteed $1.125 million base salary, $2.405 million prorated from his original 2022 signing bonus, $2.287 million prorated from his new 2024 signing bonus, $2.496 million prorated from his 2023 restructure, a $340,000 per game roster bonus, & a $100,000 workout bonus, $11.383 million in 2025, which includes a $1.255 million base salary, $2.405 million prorated from his original 2022 signing bonus, $2.287 million prorated from his new 2024 signing bonus, $2.5 million prorated from his 2025 option bonus, $2.496 million prorated from his 2023 restructure, a $340,000 per game roster bonus, & a $100,000 workout bonus, $14.665 million in 2026, which includes a $1.3 million base salary, $2.405 million prorated from his original 2022 signing bonus, $2.287 million prorated from his new 2024 signing bonus, $2.5 million prorated from his 2025 option bonus, $3.237 million prorated from his 2026 option bonus, $2.496 million prorated from his 2023 restructure, a $340,000 per game roster bonus, & a $100,000 workout bonus.

As for his 2027, 2028, & 2029 cap numbers, they’d be $19.475 million in 2027, which includes a $8.515 million base salary, $2.287 million prorated from his new 2024 signing bonus, $2.496 million prorated from his 2023 restructure, $2.5 million prorated from his 2025 option bonus, $3.237 million prorated from his 2026 option bonus, a $340,000 per game roster bonus, & a $100,000 workout bonus, $17.749 million in 2028, which includes a $9.285 million base salary, $2.287 million prorated from his new 2024 signing bonus, $2.5 million prorated from his 2025 option bonus, $3.237 million prorated from his 2026 option bonus, a $340,000 per game roster bonus, & a $100,000 workout bonus, & $17.5 million in 2029, which includes a $10.913 million base salary, $2.5 million prorated from his 2025 option bonus, $3.237 million prorated from his 2026 option bonus, a $340,000 per game roster bonus, & a $100,000 workout bonus.

When it comes to Ward’s fully guaranteed money, he’d get $46.13 million, which includes his 2024 base salary, his 2025 base salary, his 2026 base salary, $5.515 million of his 2027 base salary, with the remaining becoming fully guaranteed on April 1, 2026, a $11.435 million signing bonus, $10 million of his $12.5 million option bonus due in 2025, & $15.5 million of his $16.185 million option bonus due in 2026.

As for overall guaranteed money, Ward would get $52.315 million, which includes a $11.345 million signing bonus, a $1.125 million 2024 base salary, a $1.255 million 2025 base salary, a $1.3 million 2026 base salary, a $8.515 million 2027 base salary, a $12.5 million option bonus due in 2025, & a $16.185 million option bonus due in 2026.

The 49ers would end up saving $9.148 million in cap room for 2024, and $915,000 in 2025 from his pending $12.298 million dead money hit.

With these two extensions included into future years, plus the Brock Purdy extension I wrote about earlier in this article, the 49ers would look like this from 2025-2028.

2025: $29,652,437 under with 41 players signed, $21,252,437 under with 51 players signed, on a projected $280 million salary cap.
2026: $39,315,902 under with 25 players signed, $16,305,902 under with 51 players signed, on a projected $305 million salary cap.
2027: $111,440,812 under with 13 players signed, $76,100,812 under with 51 players signed, on a projected $330 million salary cap.
2028: $158,038,895 under with 5 players signed, $113,188,895 under with 51 players signed, on a projected $355 million salary cap.

The above numbers would help keep the 49ers core together if this were to happen similar to this, with the extensions of Brock Purdy, Brandon Aiyuk, Trent Williams, & Charvarius Ward, leaving players like Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel Sr., George Kittle, Nick Bosa, & Fred Warner could/should be back before their deals void, which is after 2025 for Samuel, & Kittle, after 2026 for Fred Warner, after 2027 for Christian McCaffrey, & after 2028 for Nick Bosa.

All of the above players will count against the salary cap as dead money, from 2026-2029, $8.493 million for Samuel, & $13.625 million for Kittle in 2026, $9.749 million for Warner in 2027, $14.866 million for McCaffrey in 2028, & $5,803,105 for Bosa in 2029.

I still fully believe that the 49ers can keep the players above long term, while also extending or re-signing Dre Greenlaw, & Deommodore Lenoir, which would give the 49ers 12 players making $10 million or more a year on average.

QB Brock Purdy- $55.5 million
RB Christian McCaffrey- $19 million
WR Deebo Samuel Sr.- $23.85 million
WR Brandon Aiyuk- $29 million
TE George Kittle- $15 million
LT Trent Williams- $25.5 million
DE Nick Bosa- $34 million
MLB Fred Warner- $19.045 million
WLB Dre Greenlaw – $12 million
CB Charvarius Ward- $20 million
CB Deommodore Lenoir- $10 million

I should also note that the 49ers could look to release someone like center Jake Brendel after 2024, when they’d save $2.401 million, with a $2.046 million dead money hit in 2025, that’s if the 49ers do find someone who can become the teams’ future at center.

It’s also a possibility that the 49ers might let go of nose tackle Javon Hargrave, who will be 33 by the time his deal ends after 2026, if they decided to release him in 2025, they’d save only $3.225 million with a pre June 1 cut, with a dead money hit of $24.88 million in 2025, or a savings of $20.65 million with a post June 1 designation, while leaving dead money hits of $7.455 million in 2025, & $17.505 million in 2026, while they’d be saving $29.855 million with a pre June 1 cut, or $12.35 million in 2026 with a post June 1 cut, if cut in 2025.

Now, if the 49ers were to wait a year, and release him in 2026, with a pre June 1 cut, they’d save $12.35 million, while having a $17.505 million dead money hit, or a savings of $22.5 million with a post June 1 designation, while having a dead money hit of $7.355 million in 2026, & $10.13 million in 2027.
