With the offseason now winding down, and the 49ers set to report for training camp on July 26th, let’s take a look at a potential extension for running back Matt Breida.

I believe Breida’s market value, or what he should be looking for is in the $3.6 million, to $4.95 million range, so here are those running back contract comps according to OverTheCap.com.

First up is Dion Lewis, who signed a 4-year deal, worth $19.8 million with the Tennessee Titans back in 2018, with an average of $4.95 million a year, and guarantees of $8.25 million, with $5.75 million being fully guaranteed.

Below is the breakdown via OTC.

Last up is New Orleans Saints Latavius Murray, who signed a 4-year deal, worth $15 million, averaging $3.6 million a year, with guarantees of $7.2 million, all fully guaranteed.

Now as for Breida, I’d expect a 3-year deal for him, in the $4 million to $4.25 million area, with per game roster bonuses in the $200,000 to $250,000 range, and yearly workout bonuses in the $50,000 to $100,000 range.

I’d also expect Breida to get in the neighborhood of $5 million in guarantees on a team friendly deal, with likely just the first year being guaranteed, base salary, and a guaranteed roster bonus, also a possible small signing bonus.

Now Breida is a restricted free agent next offseason, and this offseason’s 2nd-round tender was $3.095 million, so I’d expect Breida to receive the same 2nd-round tender, only I’d expect it to be in the $3.1 million or more range, depending on how high the cap raises.
