It’s been a while since I’ve done a projected contract for any player, so  I decided today to take a look at potential extensions for wide receiver Deebo Samuel, & defensive end Nick Bosa.

We all know that Deebo requested a trade, but that’s not happening, he’ll sign a new deal, or be franchised up-to 3 times, more likely 2 times, due to the 3rd time being way too expensive, so he’d be wise to cash in now, & the 49ers should reward him for his play, hard work, & dedication, he truly is a one of a kind player.

So, let’s begin with Deebo Samuel, who is represented by Tory Dandy, who also represents Washington Commanders’ wide receiver Terry McLaurin, and new Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown, who signed a 4-year contract extension, worth $100 million, with $56,470,471 in fully guaranteed money, so this is where we need to be looking at when it comes to what Deebo wants, will get, structure, & bonuses.

Brown signed his deal with the Eagles, he got a $23,474,471 signing bonus, which prorates at $4,694,894 from 2022-2026, but that’s not the only prorated bonus he got, or will get, due to the 30% rule, where a player’s salary can’t have be than 30% of his previous years’ salary, so he received a $10.17 million option bonus, which prorates at $2.034 million from 2023-2027, which is a void year, 2027 that is, and it appears he got another protected option bonus, this time worth $19.125 million, which prorates at $3.825 million from 2022-2028, which again is a void year, so he’s set to be a UFA after the 2026 season.

That’s not the only guarantees he received, as he got his 2022 base salary, $986,000, his 2023 base salary, $1.08 million, & his 2024 base salary, $1.125 million, all fully guaranteed.

So, if we look at Brown’s deal, which comes courtesy of OverTheCap.com, which the two links go to Brown’s player page, & the other to the 30% rule.

So, this is the basic outline of what an extension would look like for Deebo Samuel, but the 49ers don’t have the cap room right now to give him a signing bonus that big, as even if they lowered his base salary, & workout bonus down to the minimum, $965,000, difference of $2.931 million, that’s only a $15.155 million signing bonus, so the 49ers will need to either create cap room, with the likes of left tackle Trent Williams($4.904 million saved), middle linebacker Fred Warner($1,223,200 saved), & free safety Jimmie Ward($6.224 million saved) as candidates for restructurings, or in Ward’s case, an extension.

Now, if Deebo accepts the $15.155 million signing bonus, the 49ers would have to give him back-to-back option bonuses in 2023, & 2024, somewhere around $15.17 million in 2023, which would prorate at $3.034 million from 2023-2027, & $23.125 million in 2024, which would prorate at $4.625 million from 2023-2028, with 2027 & 2028 being voidable years for cap purposes to spread the bonuses over the maximum 5-years allowed.

That right there would be $53.45 million in fully guaranteed money, plus he’d get his 2022, 2023, & 2024 base salaries fully guaranteed, which could come in at $965,000 in 2022, $1.08 million in 2023, & $1.125 million in 2024, if we follow what A.J. Brown received, which is the best comp since, as stated before, he has the same agent at Deebo Samuel, for a grand total of $56.62 million in fully guaranteed money, which is slightly more than what A.J. Brown got.

Of course the 49ers will want per game roster bonuses, & workout bonuses in the contract, somewhere around $340,000 a year for the per game roster bonuses, & $10,00 workout bonuses, for a total of $1.76 million if the deal is only a 4-year extension, or $2.2 million if the deal is a 5-year extension, along with 2025 & 2026 base salaries in the $11.37 million range for 2025, & $30.25 million in 2026, similar to A.J. Brown, which would total $10 million, or $25 million a year, if the deal is a 4-year extension, now if it’s a 5-year extension, the base salaries of $10.93 million in 2024, $25 million in 2025, $, & $30.25 million in 2027, a total of $125 million, or $25 million a year.

So, when the deal with Deebo gets done, I expect it to look similar to what A.J. Brown’s does.

As for Nick Bosa, he should be the first defensive player with an average per year of at least $30 million a year, probably north of that, maybe $32 million a year, which would be a 5-year, $160 million extension, or a 4-year, $128 million extension.

As for yearly per game roster bonuses, I’d expect $340,000, and $100,000 yearly workout bonuses, as for total guarantees, right now Nick’s brother Joey has the most overall guarantees, $102 million, while T.J. Watt has the most fully guaranteed money, $80 million, so expect the numbers to come in around $105 million guaranteed, with $85 million of it being fully guaranteed.

And both Deebo Samuel, & Nick Bosa’s extensions would have low year 1 & 2 cap numbers, meaning 2023 & 2024, before it skyrockets in 2025, and beyond.

And yes, these 2 deals look expensive, but that’s the way the NFL is trending, players are going to cash in over the next 3-4 years, especially after the new TV deals are in place, the beginning of the 2023 season.
