According to Jason Fitzgerald of OverTheCap.com has reported that the 49ers restructured the contract of injured nose tackle/defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, well his 2025 season’s salary, going from $19.9 million, to just $2.1 million, saving the 49ers $17.8 million in 2025.
This move most likely means the end to Hargrave’s future with the 49ers, as he didn’t receive any new guaranteed money, meaning the 49ers will be able to release Hargrave in 2025, and save $2.93 million with a post June 1 cut designation, which wouldn’t be available until June 2nd, while taking on dead money hits of $7.375 million in 2025, & $23.66 million in 2026, while saving $6.195 million in 2026.
The 49ers did something similar this offseason with wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr., where they converted his base salary into an option bonus that is due on the 10th day of the new league year in March 2025, but I don’t believe that means he’ll be a sure fire post June 1 cut designation, as the only way to really get out of Samuel’s deal is to trade him before the 49ers have to pay him his $15,430,530 option bonus, as the option bonus should be a protected option bonus, which just means it’s fully guaranteed.
