The blows keeping coming for the 49ers, after losing Christian McCafrrey, Deebo Samuel Sr., they’ve now lost Javon Hargrave to what is being reported, by 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, as a torn triceps injury, which will likely sideline him for the remainder of the 2024 regular season.
Remaining on the 49ers interior defensive line are Maliek Collins, Kevin Givens, & Jordan Elliott, that’s its, but all 3 have played good this season thus far, so I’d expect the 49ers to sign T.Y. McGill Jr., who can play both interior defensive line positions, to the 53-man roster.
The 49ers already have an open roster spot after placing McCaffrey on injured reserve after week 1.
I’m sure the 49ers are hoping that they’ll get back Kalia Davis at some point this season, as he was placed on injured reserve, with the designated for return tag, meaning he will count against the maximum of 8 players allowed back in a single season.
Other players on injured reserve who are eligible to come off of the list for the season are, McCaffrey, Jon Feliciano, & Ambry Thomas, so when the 49ers put Hargrave on injured reserve, the team will have 5 players that can come back this season, despite the fact that Hargrave likely won’t, but I’m no doctor, so I guess it’s possible if the 49ers make a deep playoff run that Hargrave is able to come back then.
As far as Ricky Pearsall goes, I’m not 100% sure if Pearsall, who is on reserve/NFI, would count towards the teams’ maximum of 8 players coming back, while Dre Greenlaw doesn’t, as he started on reserve/PUP.
And the reason I’m not 100% sure for Pearsall is because of the fact he was placed on reserve/NFI after final cuts were made, and that was due to Pearsall being shot in the chest after an attempted robbery.
