With the NFL officially setting the 2024 salary cap at $255.4 million, and the 49ers released cornerback Isaiah Oliver, it’s time to take an updated look at the 49ers 2024 cap situation.
The 49ers have 56 players signed, accounting for $291,691,903, plus $9,145,613 in dead money, for a total cap commitment of $300,836,516, which would put the 49ers just $1,107,234 over their projected adjusted cap of $295,755,281, which includes the $255.4 million base cap, carryover amount of $36,395,265, and projected adjustment amount of $3,960,016.

Now, the 49ers will need to create salary cap room in order to be able to sign any free agents, and their draft class, with the options below.
RB Christian McCaffrey – $8,472,000 (Restructure)
WR Deebo Samuel – $15,877,600 (Restructure)
TE George Kittle – $9,752,000 (Restructure)
LT Trent Williams – $15,072,000 (Restructure)
DT Arik Armstead – $12,960,000 (Extension or Restructure)
MLB Fred Warner – $11,340,000 (Restructure)
WLB Dre Greenlaw – $5,580,000 (Extension or Restructure)
CB Charvarius Ward – $9,148,000 (Extension or Restructure)
With the cap coming in much higher than originally expected, I only expect the 49ers to restructure Deebo Samuel’s deal to save $15,877,600, I also expect them to tender RFA wide receiver Jauan Jennings to the 2nd-round tender level, which is worth $4.89 million, leaving the team with $10,795,366 in cap room to begin the 2024 offseason.
Now, the 49ers could save a ton of cap room by extending the likes of defensive tackle Arik Armstead, weakside linebacker Dre Greenlaw, and cornerback Charvarius Ward, which combines for $27.668 million, but with Greenlaw’s achilles injury, it’s unlikely the team extends him until they see him back in action, at least practicing.
I wouldn’t expect the 49ers to make a huge splash in free agency, something more along the lines of a Charvarius Ward level player, someone up-and-coming, & also younger.
We should find out more over the next few weeks as to what the 49ers official adjusted salary cap will be, but the last matter of business is the 49ers extending wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
With that said, thank you for reading, and follow me on X/Twitter @49erscap.
