With Nick Bosa’s extension now officially signed, and the 49ers currently having over $42 million in cap room, I think it’s time to breakdown the 49ers’ 2024 salary cap situation.
Right now, the team has 42 players signed for 2024, accounting for $273,279,315, plus $7,233,961 in dead money, for a total commitment of $280,513,276, putting the team $24,513,276 over the projected 2024 cap of $256 million, but that’s with 42 players signed, and with enough players for the top 51 rule, they’d be $31,668,276 over that projected cap.
Now, let’s first take a look at the 42 players signed, with their 2024 cap number.
- LT 71 Trent Williams(2026)- $31,656,777
- DT 91 Arik Armstead(2024)- $28,573,824
- WR 19 Deebo Samuel(2025)- $28,572,000

- TE 85 George Kittle(2025)- $21,986,575
- CB 7 Charvarius Ward(2024)- $17,901,000
- NT 98 Javon Hargrave(2026)- $15,475,000
- DE 97 Nick Bosa(2028)- $14,671,000
- RB 23 Christian McCaffrey(2025)- $14,144,000
- WR 11 Brandon Aiyuk(2024)- $14,124,000
- WLB 57 Dre Greenlaw(2024)- $9,632,382
- FB 44 Kyle Juszczyk(2025)- $7,588,750
- C 64 Jake Brendel(2026)- $4,192,000
- CB 26 Isaiah Oliver(2024)- $3,866,000
- P 18 Mitch Wishnowsky(2026)- $2,825,000
- RT 68 Colton McKivitz(2024)- $2,536,000
- LG 65 Aaron Banks(2024)- $2,250,694
- SS 30 George Odum(2024)- $1,625,000
- DE 95 Drake Jackson(2025)- $1,590,561
- CB 20 Ambry Thomas(2024)- $1,425,154
- RB 32 Tyrion Davis-Price(2025)- $1,393,240
- WR 6 Danny Gray(2025)- $1,375,883
- LS 46 Taybor Pepper(2025)- $1,300,000
- FS 27 Ji’Ayir Brown(2026)- $1,243,108
- PK 4 Jake Moody(2026)- $1,219,756
- TE 81 Cameron Latu(2026)- $1,219,756
- RG 74 Spencer Burford(2025)- $1,153,014
- RT 76 Jaylon Moore(2024)- $1,135,759
- CB 2 Deommodore Lenoir(2024)- $1,126,217
- SS 29 Talanoa Hufanga(2024)- $1,115,038
- RB 25 Elijah Mitchell(2024)- $1,100,893
- CB 0 Samuel Womack III(2025)- $1,055,831
- LG 63 Nick Zakelj(2025)- $1,032,590
- NT 93 Kalia Davis(2025)- $1,018,003
- QB 13 Brock Purdy(2025)- $1,004,253
- CB 28 Darrell Luter Jr.(2026)- $997,555
- RB 24 Jordan Mason(2024)- $988,334
- DE 55 Robert Beal Jr.(2026)- $979,510
- SLB 53 Dee Winters(2026)- $950,110
- TE 9 Brayden Willis(2026)- $936,039
- WR 10 Ronnie Bell(2026)- $935,482
- SLB 50 Jalen Graham(2026)- $935,482
I also need to mention that the 49ers have 4 players that could/will see base salary increases, Elijah Mitchell, Aaron Banks, Deommodore Lenoir, and Talanoa Hufanga, with Hufanga already guaranteed to see his base salary escalate to the 2nd-round RFA tender level, which would be $4.901 million.
Now, for Mitchell, Banks, & Lenoir, they would likely see their base salaries escalate to the original round tender level, which is projected to be $3.124 million, so all in all, that’s an extra $9,533,416 added to team commitments, putting them $34,046,692 over with 42 players signed, and $41,201,692 over with 51 players signed.
Now, as I stated in the beginning, the 49ers have over $42 million in cap room right now, and I expect them to carryover at least $35 million of that, with the other $7 million being used for in season roster moves, meaning the team would be $953,308 under the projected 2024 cap of $256 million, with 42 players signed, and with 51 signed, they’d be $6,201,692 over the projected cap.
Now, the team has ways to make extra cap room, with them listed below.
RB Christian McCaffrey – $8,472,000 (Restructure)
WR Deebo Samuel – $15,877,600 (Restructure)
TE George Kittle – $9,752,000 (Restructure)
LT Trent Williams – $15,072,000 (Restructure)
DT Arik Armstead – $12,960,000 (Extension or Restructure)
MLB Fred Warner – $11,340,000 (Restructure)
WLB Dre Greenlaw – $5,580,000 (Extension or Restructure)
CB Charvarius Ward – $9,148,000 (Extension or Restructure)
Now, if I’m the 49ers I try to extend the contracts of Arik Armstead, Dre Greenlaw, & Charvarius Ward, saving the team $27.668 million, along with restructuring Deebo Samuel’s deal, saving $15,877,600, for a total savings of $43,545,600, leaving the 49ers $44,498,908 under the projected 2024 cap with 42 players signed, and with 51 signed, they’d be $37,343,908 under, so more than enough money to replace any veterans the team losses in free agency, or potentially make another splash move.
I expect the team to tender Jauan Jennings at the 2nd-round level as a RFA, which would be $4.901 million, leaving the team $40,392,908 under with 43 players signed, or $32,442,908 under with 51 players signed.
I should mention that Armstead, Greenlaw, and Ward currently are set to count $29,709,766 in 2025 in dead money, so I am confident that the team can get those 3 players to count in that area in 2025 on new contracts, maybe even lower.
The team should also look to extend the contracts of Brandon Aiyuk, Aaron Banks, Deommodore Lenoir, & Talanoa Hufanga, which would save the team some cap room, but the team will have salary cap room to carryover into 2025.
And there you have it, a breakdown of the 49ers 2024 salary cap situation, now enjoy the rest of the season, especially after the dominate win in Pittsburgh today, and let’s hope for Lombardi trophy #6.
