The 49ers are hard at work with their offseason program, a.k.a. OTAs, being underway, but I want to look a bit into the future, just a couple months from now, when Nick Bosa will get his extension, and try to project a Bosa extension, also what it means for their current 2023 & 2024 salary cap situations with my projected contract.

Currently Nick Bosa has a $17.859 million cap number, and the team should be able to save just under $10 million in salary cap room with a Bosa extension, which I’m projecting comes in at $35 million a year, over 5-years, signing him thru 2028.

I would give Bosa $105 million in guaranteed money, with $82 million of it being fully guaranteed, that would make him the highest paid non-quarterback, in APY, total guarantees, and fully guaranteed money.

I would give him a $35 million signing bonus, a $15.125 million option bonus due in 2024, which will prorate over 5-years, for cap purposes, along with guaranteeing his 2023, 2024, & 2025 base salaries fully, while also guaranteeing part of his 2026 base salary for injury, with it becoming fully guaranteed on April 1, 2025.

I would also give him yearly $750,000 per game roster bonuses, & yearly $100,000 workout bonuses, both beginning in 2024.

His 2023 base salary would come in at $1.08 million, the league minimum, 2024 would also be the league minimum of just $1.125 million, meaning his 2023 salary cap number would be just $8.08 million, while his 2024 cap number would be $12 million.

As far as 2025-2028, of the $175 million in total new money, there would be $121.82 million in money spread out over those 4 years, with $3.4 million of it being his yearly per game roster bonuses & yearly workout bonuses, leaving $118.42 million, which I would give him a. 2025 base salary of $29.67 million, but I would also guarantee his 2024, & 2025 per game roster bonuses, & workout bonuses, meaning his 2025 base salary would actually come in at $27.97 million, for a 2025 cap number of $38.845 million, which is a large number, but something the 49ers can afford.

As for what it would do for the 2023 & 2024 salary cap situations, the 49ers would save $9.779 million in salary cap room for 2023, putting them $20,101,233 under their adjusted cap, while the additional $12 million for 2024 would put the 49ers $25,683,528 over a projected $256 million salary cap, but as I’ve said, I liken 2024 to 2022, when the 49ers restructured George Kittle, & Arik Armstead to get under the salary cap, so don’t worry about that number, as the 49ers have several ways of creating cap room, with the options below.

RB Christian McCaffrey – $8,472,000 (Restructure)

WR Deebo Samuel – $15,877,600 (Restructure)

TE George Kittle – $9,752,000 (Restructure)

LT Trent Williams – $15,072,000 (Restructure)

DT Arik Armstead – $12,960,000 (Extension or Restructure)

MLB Fred Warner – $11,340,000 (Restructure)

WLB Dre Greenlaw – $5,580,000 (Extension or Restructure)

CB Charvarius Ward – $9,148,000 (Extension or Restructure)

But there you have it, a projected Nick Bosa extension, with a look at both 2023 & 2024’s salary cap situations.
