I did two projected rosters yesterday, 1 with Brock Purdy o the 53, and 1 without Brock Purdy on the 53, and I went into salary cap ramifications, so let’s take deeper look at the 49ers 2023 & 2024 salary cap situations with my latest projections.
For those who missed it, here is the projected rosters, which you can find by clicking here.
Now, the cap ramifications were this, with Purdy on the roster, plus a Bosa extension, savings nearly $10 million, the 49ers would have around $14.7 million in cap room, and with Purdy on PUP or Short Term IR, they’d be around $13.8 million in cap room available.
For 2023, the 49ers would have these 53 on on my projections, with salary cap numbers.
With Brock on the 53.

PUP/IR:
- QB 13 Brock Purdy(2025)- $889,253
Practice Squad:
- RB 36 Khalan Laborn(2023)- $216,000
- FB 49 Jack Colletto(2023)- $216,000
- WR 17 Chris Conley*(2023)- $370,800

Now, for 2023, the 49ers would have enough salary cap room, as I said before in the $14.7 million to $13.8 million range, which will allow them to carryover a good amount, likely in the $8 million range, which would help in 2024.
The 49ers would also get credited back base salary guarantees for veterans, and UDFAs, with those being the following.
Veterans:
QB Brandon Allen – $200,000
WR Chris Conley – $370,800 out of $400,000
WR Willie Snead IV – $250,000
TE Ross Dwelley – $370,800 out of $700,000
DT T.Y. McGill Jr. – $370,800 out of $400,000
That would be a total of $1,562,400 for the vets.
UDFAs:
RB Khalan Laborn – $30,000
FB Jack Colletto – $100,000
C Corey Luciano – $5,000
LT Ilm Manning – $90,000
RT Joey Fisher – $115,000
CB D’Shawn Jamison – $120,000
FS Avery Young – $10,000
That’s a total of $470,000, add that t0 the aforementioned $1,562,400 for veterans, they’d get back a total of $2,032,400.
So, how does that help the 49ers 2024 salary cap situation, well, right now, with my roster the 49ers would have the following 42 players signed under my projections, with their cap number.
- WR 19 Deebo Samuel(2025)- $28,572,000
- LT 71 Trent Williams(2026)- $28,009,777
- DT 91 Arik Armstead(2024)- $25,628,824

- TE 85 George Kittle(2025)- $19,842,575
- CB 7 Charvarius Ward(2024)- $17,901,000

- CB 26 Samuel Womack III(2025)- $1,055,831
- LG 63 Nick Zakelj(2025)- $1,032,590
- NT 93 Kalia Davis(2025)- $1,018,003
- QB 13 Brock Purdy(2025)- $1,004,253
- CB 28 Darrell Luter Jr.(2026)- $997,555
- RB 24 Jordan Mason(2024)- $988,334
- DE 33 Robert Beal Jr.(2026)- $979,510
- SLB 53 Dee Winters(2026)- $950,110
- TE 9 Brayden Willis(2026)- $936,039
- WR 10 Ronnie Bell(2026)- $935,482
- SLB 50 Jalen Graham(2026)- $935,482
The team will see, as I said yesterday, 4 players have their base salaries escalate, Elijah Mitchell, Aaron Banks, Deommodore Lenoir, & Talanoa Hufanga, with Mitchell, Banks, & Lenoir escalating to $3.124 million each, while Hufanga will get the 2nd-round RFA tender level, which would be $4.901 million.
That would put the 49ers $26,719,004 over with 42 players signed, or $33,874,004 with 51 signed, but as I stated yesterday, if they extend Arik Armstead, Dre Greenlaw, & Charvarius Ward, they’d save $27.688 million, plus another $15,877,600 for restructuring Deebo Samuel’s deal, for a total savings of $43,565,600, which would leave the 49ers $16,846,596 in cap room with 42 players signed, or $9,691,596 with 51 players signed.
I fully expect the team to place the 2nd-round RFA tender on Jauan Jennings to have 1 more year with him, which would cost $4.901 million, which would put the 49ers $11,945,596 under with 43 players signed, or $5,585,596 with 51 players signed.
They’d likely sign the majority of their UDFAs on their practice squad to 1-year deals, worth $795,000, on reserve/future deals, which would bring their cap room down to $6,380,596 with 50 players signed, or $5,585,596 with 51 players signed.
The team would also have the option to restructure someone to create more cap room for free agent signings, with the best choice being George Kittle, which saves $9.752 million, giving the team $16,132,596 with 50 players signed, or $15,337,595 with 51 players signed, more than enough cap room to sign their projected 11 draft picks, and sign a big name free agent, and of course, I do see the team extending Brandon Aiyuk to a long term deal, to save some cap room.
Now, I didn’t include any carryover, or adjustments/credits from base salary guarantees, which would mean the team may not have to restructure George Kittle’s deal.
With that said, thank you for reading, and follow me on Twitter @49erscap for more salary cap information, & tidbits.
