My second projected 53-man roster, with injured lists, & practice squad, along with what their 2023 & 2024 cap would look like

So the other day I did my first roster projection, and after recent signings, and non-signings, I’ve decided to update my roster projection, along with a look at the 49ers 2023 & 2024 cap situation with this roster.

First off, is the 49ers current roster, with their cap numbers, some don’t have cap numbers, as the UDFAs have yet to sign, and we just don’t have terms quite yet.

Now when it comes to the 49ers salary cap, they would have $3,648,547 in salary cap room, but before a Nick Bosa extension, which will likely save around $9.8 million, giving the 49ers $13.448 million in cap room for 2023.

As for 2024, the 49ers would be $5,111,533 over a projected $256 million 2024 cap, with just 41 players, but when you add in enough for 51 players, they’d be $13,061,533 over.

As I mentioned earlier this week, 4 players should see their base salaries escalate, Talanoa Hufanga, Elijah Mitchell, Aaron Banks, & Deommodore Lenoir, where Hufanga is guaranteed to see his base salary escalate to the 2nd-round tender, which is projected to be $4.901 million, while the other 3 would get their base salaries escalated to $3.124 million each, which would put the 49ers $14,644,949 over with 41 players signed, or $22,594,949 over with 51 players signed, but this doesn’t include Bosa’sm pending extension.

I expect Bosa’s extension to come with a 2024 cap number in the $12 million to $14 million range, which would put the team $28,644,949 over with 42 players signed, or $35,799,949 over with 51 players signed.

But again, as I said before, don’t worry, as the 49ers have the following options to create cap room.

RB Christian McCaffrey – $8,472,000 (Restructure)

WR Deebo Samuel – $15,877,600 (Restructure)

TE George Kittle – $9,752,000 (Restructure)

LT Trent Williams – $15,072,000 (Restructure)

DT Arik Armstead – $12,960,000 (Extension or Restructure)

MLB Fred Warner – $11,340,000 (Restructure)

WLB Dre Greenlaw – $5,580,000 (Extension or Restructure)

CB Charvarius Ward – $9,148,000 (Extension or Restructure)

The team can save a ton by extending the likes of Charvarius Ward, Dre Greenlaw, and Arik Armstead, in fact a total of $27.688 million, plus by redoing Deebo Samuel’s deal, they save $15,877,600, for a total savings of $43,565,600, giving the team, with 51 players signed, $7,765,651 in cap room, with Bosa’s extension.

Now, if the team decides to wait on extending those 3 players, they could restructure the following, in addition to Deebo Samuel, Trent Williams, & George Kittle, saving a combined $40,701,600 between the 3 players, leaving the team, after Bosa’s extension, $4,901,651 in cap room.

So, no matter if Bosa counts $12 million to $14 million in 2024, the 49ers will have cap room to spend in free agency, plus the fact that Brandon Aiyuk will get extended in the summer of 2024, allowing them to have cap room going into the 2024 season, just like an extension of Nick Bosa will allow the team to have cap room heading into the 2023 season.

These numbers also don’t include any potential carryover of the $13.448 million in cap room the 49ers would have heading into the 2023 season with my roster.
