Earlier today I posted my first projected 53-man roster, plus practice squad, & injured lists, and now let’s take a look at what the 49ers salary cap would look like for 2023 & 2024 with my projected roster.

The 49ers would have 71 players signed between the 53-man roster, Brock Purdy on PUP, & their 17-man practice squad, for a total committed salaries $211,821,643, plus $20,392,641 in dead money, for a total of $232,214,284 in committed salaries, leaving the 49ers $5,305,984 under their $237,520,268 adjusted salary cap for 2023.

  66. FS — Ji’Ayir Brown(2026)- $993,368
  67. SS 29 Talanoa Hufanga(2024)- $1,000,038

  70. P 18 Mitch Wishnowsky(2026)- $1,700,000
  71. LS 46 Taybor Pepper(2025)- $1,225,000

I expect the 49ers to get a deal done with Nick Bosa before training camp begins, where we see his $17.859 million cap number go down to around $8 million, saving over $9.8 million in cap room, which would give the team around $15.164 million in cap room for the 2023 season.

Now, as for 2024, here’s the players who would be signed for 2024, with their cap numbers.

  1. WR 19 Deebo Samuel(2025)- $28,572,000

  24. PK – Jake Moody(2026)- $1,219,756
  25. TE – Cameron Latu(2026)- $1,219,756
  26. RG 74 Spencer Burford(2025)- $1,153,014
  27. CB 2 Deommodore Lenoir(2024)- $1,126,217
  28. SS 29 Talanoa Hufanga(2024)- $1,115,038
  29. RB 25 Elijah Mitchell(2024)- $1,100,893
  30. CB 26 Samuel Womack III(2025)- $1,055,831
  31. LG 63 Nick Zakelj(2025)- $1,032,590
  32. NT 93 Kalia Davis(2025)- $1,018,003
  33. QB 13 Brock Purdy(2025)- $1,004,253
  34. CB – Darrell Luter Jr.(2026)- $997,555
  35. RB 24 Jordan Mason(2024)- $988,334
  36. DE – Robert Beal Jr.(2026)- $979,510
  37. SLB – Dee Winters(2026)- $950,110
  38. TE – Brayden Willis(2026)- $936,039
  39. WR – Ronnie Bell(2026)- $935,482

The 49ers would have 39 players signed for 2024, with them being $3,188,761 over a projected $256 million salary cap, but that’s with just 39 players signed, when they have enough for 51 players, they’d be $12,728,761 over.

This doesn’t include Nick Bosa, or the players who will see their base salaries escalate, Talanoa Hufanga, Deommodore Lenoir, Aaron Banks, & Elijah Mitchell, which would put the team $12,722,177 over with 39 players signed, and with 51 signed they’d be $22,262,177 over.

But that doesn’t include whatever Bosa’s 2024 cap number will be, which will likely be in the $12 million to $14 million range, in my opinion of course, which would put the team $26,722,177 over with 40 players signed, and $35,467,177 with 51 signed.

Below are restructure and/or extension candidates, with how much the team can gain.

RB Christian McCaffrey – $8,472,000 (Restructure)

WR Deebo Samuel – $15,877,600 (Restructure)

TE George Kittle – $9,752,000 (Restructure)

LT Trent Williams – $15,072,000 (Restructure)

DT Arik Armstead – $12,960,000 (Extension or Restructure)

MLB Fred Warner – $11,340,000 (Restructure)

WLB Dre Greenlaw – $5,580,000 (Extension or Restructure)

CB Charvarius Ward – $9,148,000 (Extension or Restructure)

So do not worry, the team can save a ton by extending the likes of Charvarius Ward, Dre Greenlaw, and Arik Armstead, in fact a total of $27.688 million, plus by redoing Deebo Samuel’s deal, they save $15,877,600, for a total savings of $43,565,600, giving the team, with 51 players signed, $8,098,423 in cap room, with Bosa’s extension.

Now, if the team decides to wait on extending those 3 players, they could restructure the following, in addition to Deebo Samuel, Trent Williams, & George Kittle, saving a combined $40,701,600 between the 3 players, leaving the team, after Bosa’s extension, $5,234,423 in cap room.

So, no matter if Bosa counts $12 million to $14 million in 2024, the 49ers will have around $11 million-$13 million in cap room to spend in free agency, plus the fact that Brandon Aiyuk will get extended in the summer of 2024, allowing them to have cap room going into the 2024 season, just like an extension of Nick Bosa will allow the team to have cap room heading into the 2023 season.

These numbers also don’t include any potential carryover of the $15 million in cap room the 49ers would have heading into the 2023 season with my roster.
