The 2022 regular season has come to an end, and it’s time to take a look at the 49ers final 2022 salary cap numbers, along with a look at 2023.
The 49ers ended 2022 with $5,278,420 in salary cap room, plus the team should get back somewhere in the $6,613,848 in adjustments/credits, which means the 49ers will have over $11.891 million in extra cap room to spend.

As for 2023, the 49ers have 33 players signed, with a projected $8,987,195 in cap room, but that’s with just 33 players signed, so when they have enough players signed to get to the top 51 rule, they’d be $4,512,805 over a projected $225 million cap, so any amount will help greatly, but this also doesn’t include carryover, but when we add in carryover & adjustments/credits, the team would be $20,879,463 under a projected cap of $225 million, but again with just 33 players signed, but when they have 51 players signed, their cap room would be $8,189,463.
Below are the 33 players, plus their 2023 cap number.
- QB 5 Trey Lance(2024)- $9,301,434

- DT/NT 99 Javon Kinlaw(2023)- $4,928,223
- NT 93 Kalia Davis(2025)- $783,003
- WLB 57 Dre Greenlaw(2024)- $5,648,558
- MLB 54 Fred Warner(2026)- $18,525,000

- SS 30 George Odum(2024)- $1,840,000

The team will most certainly tender their RFAs, & ERFAs, which will come in at around $2.629 million for defensive tackle Kevin Givens, & strongside linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles, $2.745 million for left tackle Colton McKivitz, and $940,000 for wide receiver Jauan Jennings.
Obviously, the 49ers will have to decide on what players they will/would want to bring back, with the players I’d expect the 49ers to want to try & keep being, tight end Tyler Kroft, center Jake Brendel, right guard Daniel Brunskill, right tackle Mike McGlinchey, defensive ends Samson Ebukam, Charles Omenihu, Kerry Hyder Jr., & Jordan Willis, nose tackle Hassan Ridgeway, strongside linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, cornerback Emmanuel Moseley, & free safeties Jimmie Ward, & Tashaun Gipson Sr.
Now, most of these players won’t cost much, with the higher salaried guys being McGlinchey, Ebukam, Omenihu, Al-Shaair, & Ward.
The 49ers also have to decide on both wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, and defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw’s 5th-year options, which would come in at $13.511 million for Aiyuk, and $9.652 million for Kinlaw, both which would be fully guaranteed.
If Kinlaw stays healthy the rest of the way, & plays well, I expect the 49ers to pick up his option, while Aiyuk is a no brainer, his option will be picked up.
The biggest extension candidate will be defensive end Nick Bosa, who will likely get somewhere in the $35 million a year range, $110 million guaranteed, with more than $80 million of it being fully guaranteed.
If the 49ers decide to extend Aiyuk, I’d expect a deal in the $24 million to $25 million a year range, but I expect them to wait till 2024 to extend him.
Finally the team will need salary cap room for any signing(s), with the following being the best candidates.
RB Christian McCaffrey – $8.576 million max, $7,146,666 minimum
TE George Kittle – $8.456 million max, $7,927,500 minimum
LT Trent Williams – $14.588 million max, $13,676,250 minimum
DT Arik Armstead – $11.78 million max, $11,043,750 minimum
MLB Fred Warner – $9.476 million max, $8,883,750 minimum
I fully believe the team will look into altering McCaffrey’s deal, maybe an extension, and also restructure Warner’s deal, which could save the team a total of $18.052 million.
If I’m the 49ers I don’t restructure George Kittle, or Arik Armstead’s deal, as they already redid their deals in 2022 to get under the cap, plus it’s not wise to restructure the same players each year, as it creates a ripple effect of potential dead money down the road.
As for Trent Williams, I’m 50/50 on what would happen with his deal, they will exercise his option for 2024-2026, but I don’t know if they will restructure his deal again, as they did so during the 2022 season.
And I will stop at there, as the team has business left to accomplish, as they are set to take on the Seahawks this coming Saturday, in hopes of making another deep playoff run, with the ultimate goal being the 49ers getting their 6th Lombardi Trophy.
