Today I want to update everyone, post week 14, pre week 15, on what the 49ers adjustments/credits could look like for 2023, especially after the season-ending injury to Jimmy Garoppolo.
The 49ers gave out a good amount of guaranteed base salaries, to either veterans, or undrafted free agents, so let’s begin.
We’ll begin with the veterans.
QB Nate Sudfeld – Sudfeld received a 1-year, $2 million deal from the 49ers, but was cut at final cuts, but was signed by Detroit to a 1-year deal, worth $1.035 million, which is guaranteed, since he’s a vested veteran, and so far he’s earned $862,500 of it.
WR Malik Turner – Turner got a 1-year deal from the 49ers, with $300,000 guaranteed, and he was recently released from the practice squad, but signed by the Raiders to their practice squad, so the 49ers will get back the entire $300,000.
WR Marcus Johnson – Johnson signed a 1-year deal with the 49ers, with $250,000 guaranteed, and was on the Giants practice squad, and he’s now on the Giants 53-man roster now, he’s made enough for the 49ers to get the $250,000 back.
DE Kemoko Turay – Turay signed a 1-year deal with the 49ers, worth $1.7 million, with $1 million fully guaranteed, and the 49ers can get $751,900, as he is on the practice squad, & thus far he’s earned $626,544.
CB Dontae Johnson – Johnson signed a 1-year deal, that included $560,000 guaranteed, but he’s on the practice squad, and thus far he’s set to earn $447,667, so the 49ers will get most of the $560,000 that they gave him in guaranteed money.
Now let’s look at the undrafted free agents.
WR Tay Martin – Martin got $45,000 guaranteed, and thus far he’s earned $200,167.
RG Jason Poe – Poe got $65,000 guaranteed, and thus far he’s earned $172,500.
SLB Marcelino McCrary-Ball – McCrary-Ball got $100,000 guaranteed, and has earned $172,500 thus far.
CB Qwuantrezz Knight – Knight received $25,000 guaranteed, and he’s earned $172,500 thus far.
FS Tayler Hawkins – Hawkins got $50,000 guaranteed, and has earned $172,500 thus far.
Between the veterans, and rookies, the 49ers should get back $3,069,567, as long as things stay status quo.
Next is per game roster bonus credits for 2023.
QB Jimmy Garoppolo – Jimmy G suffered a broken foot against the Dolphins, and will miss the rest of the season, so the 49ers will get back $88,235 from his $500,000 per game roster bonus.
FB Kyle Juszczyk – Juice missed 1 game, so the 49ers will get $23,529 from his $400,000 per game roster bonus.
WR Deebo Samuel – Deebo will have missed 2 games, so the 49ers will get $88,235 from his $750,000 per game roster bonus.
LT Trent Williams – Williams has missed 3 games thus far, and he has a $750,000 per game roster bonus, the 49ers would get $44,118 in adjustments/credits in 2023.
DE Samson Ebukam – Ebukam has missed 2 games thus far, and he has a $500,000 per game roster bonus, so the 49ers would get $58,824 in adjustments/credits in 2023.
DT Arik Armstead – Armstead has missed 8 games thus far, and he has a $750,000 per game roster bonus, the 49ers would get $352,941 in adjustments/credits in 2023.
NT Hassan Ridgeway – Ridgeway has an injury that will sideline him 6-8 weeks, thus the 49ers will get back $100,000 of his $340,000 per game roster bonus in adjustments/credits in 2023.
WLB Dre Greenlaw – Greenlaw 1 game, and the 49ers will get back $29,412 of his $500,000 per game roster bonus.
CB Emmanuel Moseley – Moseley tore his ACL, so he will miss the final 12 games of the season, but the 49ers will get back 6 games worth of his $500,000 per game roster bonus, so the 49ers would get $176,471 back in adjustments/credits in 2023.
FS Jimmie Ward – Ward missed 5 games, and will get back 4 games worth of his $500,000 per game roster bonus, which comes out to $117,647 in adjustments/credits in 2023.
These add up to $1,079,412.
The 49ers will also get back $2.45 million of Garoppolo’s $5.65 million LTBE incentives, so all in all, the 49ers would get back $6,554,861 in adjustments/credits, but since Jake Brendel will earn his $152,500 incentive for 50% or more playtime, the 49ers adjustments/credits would be $6,402,631.
While the $6.402 million isn’t a lot, but it’s still something, and the 49ers can use any, and all extra cap room in 2023 to retain their own.
