On Sunday the 49ers lost their starting quarterback Trey Lance to a season-ending ankle injury, which means Jimmy Garoppolo is now QB1, so let’s look at how much of his incentives he can earn.
Right now, $5.65 million of the $8.45 million in incentives counts against the cap, meaning he theoretically could have made $2.8 million more, but he won’t due to not playing week 1, plus the 49ers lost week 1.
Garoppolo can realistically earn $8.1 million, which is broken down before.
16 games with 25% or more offensive snaps, which amounts to $4 million.
If the team wins 16 games, then he earns another $1.6 million, but this is depended on Garoppolo playing 25% of the snaps in those games.
If the 49ers make the playoffs, and he plays 50% of the offensive snaps, he’ll earn $500,000.
If the 49ers make the NFC Championship game, and he plays in 50% of the offensive snaps, he’ll earn another $500,000.
He can earn another $500,000 if the 49ers win the NFC Championship game.
And finally, if the 49ers make the Super Bowl, & he plays 50% or more in it, he’ll earn another $1 million.
So, if Garoppolo can earn a total of $8.1 million, then the 49ers would lose $2.45 million in adjustments/credits for 2023, which would suck, but the 49ers would have made it to the Super Bowl, hopefully winning it, but it’s way too hard to predict what amount Garoppolo will earn.
Well, there you have it, the exact amount of his $8.45 million incentives that Jimmy Garoppolo can earn this season.
