With the Seahawks extending DK Metcalf to a $24 million a year deal, with $58.22 million in guaranteed money, let’s look at what this means for Deebo Samuel, and the 49ers.

Of course, Deebo wants a new deal done, as do the 49ers, with both John Lynch, & Kyle Shanahan both remaining optimistic that a deal will get done, but let’s look at what might be the holdup as we all wait on a deal to get done.

Something the 49ers are known for wanting in the big name players when it comes to extensions, or new deals, is that they want 5-year deals, but DK Metcalf’s deal is just a 3-year deal, 4-years with his final year of his rookie deal included, so ideally the 49ers would want what would be a 6-year deal, but it’s possible that Deebo, & his agent doesn’t want a longer term deal.

Another sticking point is most likely the guarantees, and if people follow me on Twitter, they’ll have seen that I believe that if the 49ers want a longer deal, they need to go deeper on guarantees, when it comes to how many years have guaranteed money in it, as the 49ers usually don’t go past year 3 when it comes to guaranteed money.

If the 49ers want Deebo Samuel on a long term deal, they need to go past year 3 guarantee wise, meaning they need to have something in year 4, which would be injury guaranteed money, something that I don’t think Deebo, or his agent would have an issue with, as while DK got $58.22 million in guaranteed money, he only got $31 million fully guaranteed, so this shows that Tory Dandy, who reps DK, as well as AJ Brown, & Deebo, is open to having injury guarantees in his clients deals.

Now, what would a deal look like for Deebo? It doesn’t have necessarily be like DK’s, but the 49ers probably want to something similar, with a nice sized signing bonus, and then an option bonus in year 2, which would technically be the first year of the extension, like DK got.

Now, DK didn’t get any per game roster bonuses, or workout bonuses, just a straightforward signing bonus, option bonus, and guaranteed, both fully, and injury guaranteed base salaries.

The 49ers are likely pushing for per game roster bonuses, as those are the norm for all 49ers long term or multi-year deals, while I think they’d be ok with no workout bonuses, as Deebo is one of the few players on the 49ers who don’t work out in Santa Clara, to my knowledge anyway.

As for how much Deebo will likely get, I have him pegged between $25 million to $26 million a year, with somewhere in the $70 million range for guarantees, especially if it’s a 5-year extension.

So, let’s all hope, no matter the length, 3-years, or 5-years, or even 4-years, that the 49ers, & Deebo get this deal done ASAP, and tomorrow would be a great day to get it done, as the team returns to the field on Monday, this time with pads on, so having Deebo out there practicing with Trey, and his teammates would be huge.
