Today, we continue our 9-part series showing how much of the 49ers 2022 salary cap a certain position group takes up, and today we continue with the tight ends.
Players Under Contract: George Kittle(2025), Charlie Woerner(2023), Ross Dwelley(2022), Jordan Matthews(2022), Tanner Hudson(2022), & Garrett Walston(2024)
Total Cap Hit: $12,162,523
Let’s begin with the people tight end, the best all around tight end, George Kittle, who had a good season in 2021, not necessarily up to his standard, but he was still a very good player, even with him missing some time due to injuries, and he’s set to count $7,679,765 against the 2022 cap.
Kittle’s backups are Charlie Woerner, set to count $940,258, and Ross Dwelley, set to count $1,047,500, & both should be locks to make the team, as the team didn’t address the tight end spot in the draft or free agency, so barring the 49ers adding someone late, expect both Woerner, & Dwelley to be on the 2022 roster.
We have 3 other tight ends, Jordan Matthews, making $895,000, Tanner Hudson, set to count $895,000, & undrafted free agent Garrett Walston, set to earn $705,000, but all 3 are longshots to make the final roster, but one or two of them could end up on the teams’ practice squad.
