Today, we continue our 9-part series showing how much of the 49ers 2022 salary cap a certain position group takes up, and today we continue with the running backs & fullbacks.

Players Under Contract: Elijah Mitchell(2024), Kyle Juszcyzk(2025), Trey Sermon(2024), Tyrion Davis-Price(2025), Jeff Wilson Jr.(2022), JaMycal Hasty(2022), Jordan Mason(2025), & Josh Hokit(2022)

Total Cap Hit: $9,255,954

Let’s start with the teams’ starting running back, Elijah Mitchell, who has a $870,893 cap hit, and proved he was a 6th-round steal last year, becoming the teams’ best runner, outside of Deebo Samuel, and I expect him to have an even better season in 2022, maybe he goes over 1000 yards rushing.

Next is the teams’ starting fullback, Kyle Juszcyzk, who has a $2,958,750 cap hit, and I expect Juice to be the same player he’s been since 2017, the most versatile player on the team, outside of Deebo Samuel, as he, & George Kittle really do make the run game go, without them they really suffer, so having a player like Juszyzck is a godsend.

Next are the backup running backs, first we have 2021 3rd-round pick, Trey Sermon, who is set to count $1,107,485 in 2022, and he didn’t get much playing time in 2021, but I expect him to be one of the 48 players active each week.

We also have 2022 3rd-round pick Tyrion Davis-Price, set to count $928,826 against the cap once he signs, was a surprise pick, but the more I think about it, the more I like it, as he’s a nice, bigger back, with good speed, something the 49ers could use more of in my opinion.

We have Jeff Wilson Jr. next, who is set to count $1.085 million against the 2022 cap, is a guy that has been dependable as far as production, but he does have a history of injuries, but I expect him to be on the teams’ 53-man roster.

We also have JaMycal Hasty, set to count $895,000 against the cap, and he’s a guy who, in my opinion, is likely heading to the practice squad, if he clears waivers, as he’s just not better than any of the other 4 running backs I’ve mentioned.

The last running back is Jordan Mason, an undrafted free agent out of Georgia Tech, and he’s likely a practice squad candidate.

Finally we have fullback Josh Hokit, set to count $705,000 against the cap, is a player I think the 49ers will keep around on the practice squad, but his chances of making the 53 are slim to none.
