Yesterday we began looking at what the 49ers’ key pending free agents could end up getting, today we go over nose tackle D.J. Jones.
Jones has really come on since 2019, becoming a force in the run stuffing game, and also showing unique speed for his size, as he’s been able to run down speedy quarterbacks like Kyler Murray, & Russell Wilson.
Now, the 49ers re-signed Jones to a 1-year deal, worth $3.5 million, with $3.25 million of it being fully guaranteed, so for a new deal, I’d expect Jones to be able to net in the $6 million a year range.
I’d expect the 49ers to include yearly $250,000 per game roster bonuses, & yearly $100,000 workout bonuses.
As for guarantees, I can see Jones getting in the $10 million range, with him getting a bit over $6.2 million in fully guaranteed money.
I can see Jones potentially netting as high as $10 million a year on the open market, which is a price I’d be willing to pay to Jones, but with the 49ers having so much money tied up on the defensive line, with Arik Armstead at $17 million a year, Nick Bosa likely to get north of $30 million a year, & Samson Ebukam at $6 million a year, I’m not so sure the 49ers will be willing to go that high, especially if they re-sign defensive ends Arden Key, & Jordan Willis, who I’ll go over in the next few days.
But let’s hope the 49ers do whatever it takes to re-sign D.J. Jones to a long term deal.
And, with all of this said, I thank everyone for reading this article, as always you can follow me on Twitter @49erscap, or leave a comment below, and I’ll get back to you.
