Yesterday the 49ers extended All-Pro MLB Fred Warner to a 5-year deal, worth a reported $95,025,042, which is a $19,005,008 average per year, with $27.5 million in fully guaranteed money, with $13 million in injury guaranteed money, bringing the total to $40.5 million in total guaranteed money.
The 49ers gave Warner a $12.32 million signing bonus, which prorates at $2.464 million over the first 5-years, starting in 2021, along with a $12.68 million option bonus, which according to ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio, is due sometime early in the 2022 league year, likely around April 1, 2022, just like most 49ers contracts guarantees are.
The 49ers also guaranteed his 2021 base salary, $920,000, which was lowered down from $3.348 million, which means his 2021 cap number remains the same, so, no loss in salary cap room, while also guaranteeing $1.58 million of his 2022 base salary, with the remaining $984,000 becoming guaranteed early in the 2022 offseason, again most likely on April 1, along with $12.016 million of his 2023 base salary for injury, and fully, again early in 2022, most likely on April 1, 2022.
The 49ers also will have to pay a buyback bonus in 2024, $3.6 million, which if paid, will nullify his 2025 & 2026 voidable years, if not paid, Warner’s deal will void after 2024, but I think it’s safe to say the 49ers won’t void his deal, as I highly doubt Warner’s play will decrease.
That $3.6 million buyback bonus would be paid on the 2025 cap.
Lastly, Warner will get $500,000 yearly per game roster bonuses from 2022-2026, and $100,000 yearly workout bonuses from 2022-2026.
