Today we continue our ranking of the 49ers roster, from 1-90, and today we are at 40-31.

40. DE Arden Key

2021 Cap Number: $1,245,000
Chance At Making Active Roster: Lock

Analysis: The 49ers added Key after he was waived by the Raiders, and went unclaimed, so the 49ers may have gotten a steal, since Key is a former 3rd-round pick, he has underachieved, but with a coach like Kris Kocurek, he could very well develop into being a big part of the defensive line.

39. TE Ross Dwelley

2021 Cap Number: $1,588,235
Chance At Making Active Roster: Lock

Analysis: The 49ers are very high on Dwelley, as they guaranteed his entire base salary, plus gave him a $480,000 signing bonus, making him a lock to make the 49ers 2021 roster, where I think he’ll continue to develop as a good pass catching tight end, and potentially show he deserves to be a part of the 49ers future.

38. TE MyCole Pruitt

2021 Cap Number: $987,500
Chance At Making Active Roster: Lock

Analysis: The 49ers signed Pruitt late in the offseason after working him out, and they liked him so much, that they guaranteed him $500,000 of his base salary, on top of giving him a $137,500 signing bonus. Pruitt should give the 49ers a upgrade at tight end, especially as a blocking tight end.

37. SLB Azeez Al-Shaair

2021 Cap Number: $855,000
Chance At Making Active Roster: Lock

Analysis: Al-Shaair stepped into the 49ers lineup after Kwon Alexander got hurt in 2019, and has shown he can play pretty much all 3 linebacker spots, while being a core special teams player, so he definitely has a future with the 49ers, and should have a good year in 2021.

36. C Daniel Brunskill

2021 Cap Number: $850,000
Chance At Making Active Roster: Lock

Analysis: Brunskill has proven that he’s a very good player, he may not be a great player, but he’s really helped the 49ers when they needed it, whether as a tackle due to injuries to Joe Staley & Mike McGlinchey in 2019, or at center due to the injury to Weston Richburg, and Ben Garland in 2020, so the fact that Brunskill can pretty much play every spot on the offensive line gives him a great shot at being with the 49ers in the long term.

35. DT Maurice Hurst Jr.

2021 Cap Number: $1,045,000
Chance At Making Active Roster: Lock

Analysis: The 49ers added both Arden Key, & Hurst after the Las Vegas Raiders waived both of them, and they both went unclaimed, which was a bit surprising, both that the Raiders waived two good young players, and that neither were claimed, but thankfully the 49ers got both, and with Hurst they have another key backup to Javon Kinlaw, someone who could work his way into the teams long term plans, depending on his play plus the fact that if it had not been for a heart issue, Hurst could have been a 1st-rounder, so the talent is there.

34. SS Talanoa Hufanga

2021 Cap Number: $720,038
Chance At Making Active Roster: Lock

Analysis: The 49ers picked Hufanga in the 5th-round, and he’s a guy who has the ability to play both strong safety, as well as play linebacker, so that hybrid S/LB role, and I envision Hufanga, at some point in the next 2 years, becoming the 49ers future at strong safety, as he’s a hard hitter, and a great tackler.

33. CB Demmodore Lenoir

2021 Cap Number: $731,217
Chance At Making Active Roster: Lock

Analysis: The 49ers added Lenoir in the 5th-round, and he has the ability to play both outside and in the slot, so he’ll have his opportunities to carve out a role with the 49ers, and I believe he’s most likely destined to be the teams future slot cornerback.

32. DT Kevin Givens

2021 Cap Number: $780,000
Chance At Making Active Roster: Lock

Analysis: Kevin Givens’ roster spot was in jeopardy, as he was facing assault charges for punching a man earlier in the offseason, but those charges have since been dropped, which means Givens, who has a bright future, will be on the teams active roster come week 1, where he will play a key role as a backup to Javon Kinlaw, plus he should be a part of the 49ers long term plans, as he’s a ERFA in 2022, a RFA in 2023, and a UFA in 2024, so he’s under team control for the foreseeable future..

31. NT Zach Kerr

2021 Cap Number: $966,912
Chance At Making Active Roster: Lock

Analysis: The 49ers added the ultra-versatile Zach Kerr in free agency, after the Carolina Panthers released him earlier in the offseason in a cap savings move, and Kerr should give the 49ers a lot, as he can play as a defensive end, as well as a defensive tackle, and the nose tackle spot, so Kerr will be a key player in the 49ers defensive line rotation, which could see as many as 9 players active on gamedays.
