Over the past two days I started ranking the 49ers players, from 1-90, and today we are up to 70-61.
70. QB Josh Rosen
2021 Cap Number: $850,000
Chance At Making Active Roster: 50/50
Analysis: Rosen, is battling with Nate Sudfeld to be the teams 3rd QB, but he’s yet to show anything to say he’s for sure an NFL QB, or a quality backup QB. Right now, I’d give Rosen the slight upper hand on the 3rd QB spot, as he’d have to clear waivers to be placed on the teams practice squad, where Sudfeld doesn’t have to go through waivers.
69. FB Josh Hokit
2021 Cap Number: $660,000
Chance At Making Active Roster: Longshot
Analysis: Hokit is an intriguing player, a 2020 UDFA, is a player the 49ers would like to keep around on the practice squad, as he has no chance at the making the roster, with Kyle Juszyzck back on a new 5-year deal, unless Juscyzck is injured to begin 2021, Hokit should be on the teams practice squad, as he canb definitely be someone the 49ers mold into another Juszyzck type player, a guy who can play FB, H-Back, Slot WR, and TE.
68. MLB Elijah Sullivan
2021 Cap Number: $670,000
Chance At Making Active Roster: 50/50
Analysis: Sullivan, was signed as a UDFA this offseason, and while he offers what the 49ers love, versatility, I think he has a shot, if he shows something in preseason, to win the teams 4th linebacker spot, if not, Sullivan is more than likely destined to be on the teams practice squad.
67. SLB Justin Hilliard
2021 Cap Number: $670,000
Chance At Making Active Roster: 50/50
Analysis: Hilliard, a player that former Ohio State teammate Nick Bosa told the 49ers brass that they have to get Hilliard, spent 6 seasons at OSU, where he dealt with a number of injuries, and if he can show something in preseason, he may have a good shot at being the teams 4th linebacker, but if not, he’s more than likely looking at being on the teams practice squad.
66. WLB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles
2021 Cap Number: $780,000
Chance At Making Active Roster: 50/50
Analysis: Flannigan-Fowles surprised a lot in 2020 by making the teams opening day roster, and sticking on the team for all of 2020, so he likely has the upper hand on the teams 4th linebacker spot, where he’ll battle the 2 UDFAs, and the veteran James Burgess Jr., and if he doesn’t make it, he should be brought back to the teams practice squad.
65. WLB James Burgess Jr.
2021 Cap Number: $850,000
Chance At Making Active Roster: 50/50
Analysis: The 49ers signed Burgess after a successful workout, he’s a guy who is a very good special teams player, and if the team only keeps 4 true linebackers, I think Burgess has a great shot at making the team, due to being able to play multiple linebacker positions.
64. RG Senio Kelemete
2021 Cap Number: $850,000
Chance At Making Active Roster: 50/50
Analysis: Kelemete was brought in after Justin Skule tore his ACL, and while Kelemete can play all over the offensive line, Kelemete will likely compete with Tom Compton, & Shon Coleman for a potential 9th offensive lineman spot, if not, he could be a guy the 49ers consider for the practice squad.
63. RG Tom Compton
2021 Cap Number: $850,000
Chance At Making Active Roster: 50/50
Analysis: The 49ers originally signed Compton in 2020 as an unrestricted free agent from the New York Jets, after losing out on Connor McGovern, who signed with the Jets, but Compton’s 2020 roster spot wasn’t a lock, as he had to take a pay cut, over $1 million, to make the 2020 roster, but despite the fact that he didn’t look good in 2020, he has a shot at making the team, if the team keep 9 offensive lineman, he’ll be battling with Senio Kelemete & Shon Coleman, if not, he might be asked to be on the teams practice squad.
62. LT Shon Coleman
2021 Cap Number: $1,127,500
Chance At Making Active Roster: 50/50
Analysis: Coleman, who opted out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has not played a meaningful snap since 2017, as he’s missed 2018, and 2019 due to injuries, and 2020 due to opting out, so while I would normally say he’s a longshot, if the team wants to keep a 9th offensive lineman, it’ll likely come down to Coleman, Senio Kelemete, or Tom Compton, if not, Coleman should be considered for the teams practice squad.
61. NT Darrion Daniels
2021 Cap Number: $780,000
Chance At Making Active Roster: 50/50
Analysis: Daniels spent most of 2020 on the 49ers practice squad, and after some injuries, the 49ers signed Daniels to the teams active roster, and he showed that he can be a solid nose tackle. Now, if he can show something, or an injury happens, he will have a good chance, but with the likes of D.J. Jones, & Zach Kerr ahead of him on the nose tackle depth chart, he’s more than likely destined for the teams practice squad, where he can develop, and be on the teams 2022 active roster.
