Over the past 7-10 days I went deeper into the new contracts for Trent Williams & Kyle Juszyzck, so now we’re going to take a deeper look into their free agent additions who signed multi-year deals, starting today with Alex Mack.
The 49ers added the veteran center to help solidify their interior offensive line, especially the center spot, and the fact that Kyle Shanahan has worked with Mack in the past, so this was the perfect signing for the 49ers.
So with that said, Mack signed a 3-year deal, worth $14.85 million, with $5.1 million fully guaranteed, and another $500,000 in injury guarantees, his fully guaranteed money consists of a $3.675 million signing bonus, & his 2021 base salary.
Of course we can’t talk about the signing of Mack without mentioning the fact that the 49ers have needed an upgrade at center even since Weston Richburg’s torn patellar tendon suffered in 2019 in the 49ers win over the New Orleans Saints.
The 49ers have tried several players since the injury, the likes of Ben Garland, Hroniss Grasu, & Daniel Brunskill, with only Brunskill showing anything, despite having some struggles at first.
So with that said, let’s take a look at Mack’s 3-year deal, by year.
2021:
Cap Number: $2,979,412
Base Salary: $1,425,000 (fully guaranteed)
Prorated Bonus: $1,225,000
Per Game Roster Bonus: $400,000
Cash Earned: $5,500,000
2022:
Cap Number: $6,725,000
Base Salary: $5,000,000 ($500,000 guaranteed for injury)
Prorated Bonus: $1,225,000
Per Game Roster Bonus: $400,000
Workout Bonus: $100,000
Cash Earned: $5,500,000
2023:
Cap Number: $5,075,000
Base Salary: $3,350,000
Prorated Bonus: $1,225,000
Per Game Roster Bonus: $400,000
Workout Bonus: $100,000
Cash Earned: $3,850,000
This contract is very cap friendly, where they can easily get out of the deal after 2021, but that seems highly unlikely, as the 49ers didn’t draft a true center to groom behind Mack.
So I expect Mack to play out his 3-year deal, and play at a high level, just like I said about Trent Williams.
So with all of this said, I thank everyone for reading article, as always you can follow me on Twitter @49erscap, or leave a comment below, and I’ll get back to you.
