As most 49ers fans know, the 49ers love to use the April 1 date to guarantee a certain amount of a players base salary, it could be a small part, a large part, or the entire amount, so let’s take a look at what players have key contract dates.

LG Laken Tomlinson – Contract voids on February 15, 2022.

The reason for Tomlinson’s contract voiding is due to the 49ers restructuring his contract during the 2020 season when they desperately needed cap room.

If the 49ers don’t reach a new deal, they’ll have a dead money hit of $1,005,530 in 2022, also he won’t count in the compensatory pick formula, as players who either have their contracts voided or an option declined no longer count either for you, or against you.

Also Tomlinson is a player I’ve highlighted as someone that the 49ers could restructure this season, as the 49ers will likely have at most, pre Fred Warner extension, $5 million when the season begins, so the 49ers will need to create some cap room, but it would add an extra $2.808 million in dead money for 2022, if they added 1 more void year to his deal, unless again, they extend Tomlinson.

DE Arik Armstead – $5.85 million of his $14.15 million base salary for 2022 becomes fully guaranteed on April 1, 2022.

While some people don’t think Armstead is worth keeping, and I’m confident that the 49ers will keep Armstead for 2022.

Also he’s another player who I’ve highlighted as someone the team could restructure to gain cap room, $4.528 million to be exact, but it would add $1.132 million to his 2022-2024 cap numbers, but that’s a very small amount compared to redoing Jimmy Garoppolo or Jimmie Ward’s contracts.

TE George Kittle – $4.917 million of his $11.45 million 2023 base salary becomes fully guaranteed on April 1, 2022.

This is the first time the 49ers changed their way of guaranteeing players salaries, as we all know, the 49ers use the April 1 date, but not to guarantee future salaries.

This an obvious one, no way the 49ers don’t keep Kittle.

FB Kyle Juszyzck – A $2.155 million option bonus is due on April 1, 2022.

Basically if the 49ers exercise this protected option bonus, which means it’s fully guaranteed, it would then prorate at $538,750 from 2022-2025, if they decline it, the $2.155 million gets added onto his current $1.12 million base salary for 2022, which is already fully guaranteed.

This has become a normal thing for players who re-sign or have been extended, as both George Kittle($2.25 million), & Arik Armstead($7.5 million) had option bonuses, protected again, due to them by April 1, had they not been exercised, those amounts would have been added to their base salaries, but since April 1 has passed, those bonuses were paid, allowing them to prorate over 5 seasons.

CB Emmanuel Moseley – His $4.4 million 2022 base salary becomes fully guaranteed on April 1, 2022.

His base salary is already guaranteed for injury & skill, so if the 49ers decided to cut Moseley after 2021, he’d have to be healthy, or they’d be on the hook for the $4.4 million, but I don’t see that happening.

LT Trent Williams – $5.05 million of his $7.25 million 2023 base salary becomes fully guaranteed on April 1, 2022.

This is the only other player that the 49ers have done this with, first was Kittle last offseason, and now Williams this offseason.

Again, it’s a no brainer for the 49ers, they’ll guarantee the $5.05 million for 2023, as I don’t see Trent Williams’ play going down so much that the 49ers would opt not to, plus the 49ers can’t cut Williams in 2022 without losing salary cap room.

C Alex Mack – $500,000 of his $5 million 2022 base salary becomes fully guaranteed on April 1, 2022.

Mack was signed to help solidify the 49ers offensive line, especially their interior offensive lineman, which has had it’s issues, which led them to drafting Aaron Banks & Jaylon Moore in the 2021 draft.

So unless Mack looks absolutely horrible this season, Mack will be on the 49ers 2022 roster, plus the 49ers didn’t draft a true center to be groomed, while Daniel Brunskill has played at center for the 49ers, and at a good level, there is no guarantee he’s the future center.

DE Nick Bosa – His $4,305,225 guaranteed training camp roster is due on July 28, 2022.

This is basically a formality, as the roster bonus is fully guaranteed, and the only way the 49ers would even save the money is if Bosa decides to hold out in hopes to sign a new long term extension, which is highly unlikely, as the 49ers will lock Bosa up before his 5th-year in 2023, and I should also note that the 49ers will have until May 3, 2022 to exercise Bosa’s 5th-year option, which is slated to be $16.788 million, the equivalent of the transition tag, and if he’s selected to the Pro Bowl, he’ll get the franchise tag number, which is projected to be $20.274 million, so the 49ers will want to get Bosa extended to lower his 2023 cap number.

The last one that isn’t official yet, but QB Trey Lance should have a $1,385,243 training camp option bonus, which will be guaranteed, due to his around July 28 of 2022.
