So both Field Yates of ESPN, and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network have reported similar numbers, with Yates reporting $27.6 million in new money on Joe Staley’s 2-year extension, while Rap reported $28 million, and went further with some numbers.

in 2020 he has a $10.55 million base salary, of which $4.5 million is guaranteed, likely on April 1, 2020, along with $700,000 in bonuses, which are likely $500,000 per game roster bonus, and a $200,000 workout bonus, which are what he’s scheduled to earn this year.

In 2021, he has a $11.3 million base salary, no word on guaranteed money, along the same $700,000 bonuses, likely, again, $500,000 per game roster bonus, and a $200,000 workout bonus.

As for 2019, Rap is reporting that he can now earn up to $13.5 million if he plays in all 16 games. Now this is where it may not seem like what’s reported. For one, there’s no word on any guaranteed amount, as in signing bonus, or a guaranteed roster bonus, my best bet is that the $13.5 million is cash, and not cap, so that $2.2 million in prorated bonus isn’t included in the $13.5 million number.

Also according to Yates, Staley is on the books for $36.15 million for the next 3 seasons, while Rap says $36.75 million, so again differing numbers, so it’s hard to know who’s numbers are right, or wrong. It can’t be both after all. Again this likely doesn’t include the $2.2 million prorated bonus which was already paid out.

Now we could try and figure out what’s missing, if you add up his 2019, 2020, and 2021 numbers that we know for sure, we get $32 million, so that leaves between $4.15 million and $4.75 million, depending on who’s right, between Field Yates, and Ian Rapoport.

Now hopefully we’ll have full terms on Staley’s 2-year extension this week, since it was signed on Monday.
