49ers Free Agency Splash 1.0
As day one of free agency ended, the San Franciso 49ers decided to make a splash in the pool. With the departures of former 49ers Laken Tomlinson and D.J. Jones, it seemed as if the 49ers would give day one rest. As the legal tampering clock began, guard Laken Tomlinson signed a three-year $40 million deal that can max out to $41.2 million with incentives, and he’s guaranteed $27 million per Ian Rapoport.

D.J. Jones signed with the Denver Broncos in the later evening of the tampering period. Jones signs a three-year $30 million deal with $20 million guaranteed per Ian Rapoport.

Rumors reported that the 49ers were looking to sign a high-end cornerback in free agency. Stephon Gillmore, Charvarius Ward, Carlton Davis (re-signed with Tampa Bay), and J.C. Jackson (signed with the Chargers) were those names. Late in the midnight hour, the 49ers made a big splash. The 49ers made a deal with former Chiefs cornerback Charvarius Ward to a three-year deal worth up to $42 million with $26.7 million guaranteed per Adam Schefter.

The 49ers get a big corner with Charvarius Ward listed at six foot one and 200lbs. With the signing of Ward, the 49ers get a player to lock down one side of the field and cover for some time without negating too many penalties, a breath of fresh air.
Charvarius Ward, Welcome to the Bay.
