Starting today I will be going over the 49ers’ key free agents, and what I believe they could end up getting, starting with left guard Laken Tomlinson.

Tomlinson, who played 100% of the 49ers’ 2021 offensive snaps, will see his contract void on February 15, 2022, which would leave a dead money hit of $1,204,059, so if they wish to bring Tomlinson back, while avoiding the dead money charge, they’ll need to re-sign him before his contract voids.

Now, Tomlinson previously signed a 3-year, $16.5 million extension in 2018, averaging $5.5 million a year, with $6,600,944 in fully guaranteed money, along with $5 million in injury guarantees.

With Tomlinson continued progression as a solid left guard, I believe he’s looking at somewhere in the $8 million to $9 million a year, but if he does make it to free agency, he could very well hit $10 million or more a year.

If the 49ers do re-sign Tomlinson, the 2022 cap number would definitely be low, as the deal would be backloaded, and the deal would be very team friendly, allowing the 49ers to get out of the deal if Tomlinson’s play falls off.

I’d expect the 49ers to put yearly $400,000 per game roster bonuses, & yearly $100,000 workout bonuses, just like his 2018 extension.

As for guarantees, somewhere in the $14.5 million range, with $9 million to $10 million in fully guaranteed money.
