Over the next few days I’m going to go over potential contract extensions for 3 2019 draft picks who become eligible after the 2021 season is over, today we start with wide receiver Deebo Samuel.
First up is division rival Cooper Kupp of the Los Angeles Rams, who signed a 4-year deal, worth $47.25 million, averaging $15.75 million a year, with $35.133 million guaranteed, $20.636 of which is fully guaranteed, and I should note that Kupp’s deal includes voidable years.
Next up is Cleveland Browns’ Jarvis Landry, who signed a 5-year deal, worth $75.5 million, averaging $15.1 million a year, with $47 million guaranteed, $34 million of which is fully guaranteed.
Lastly, we have Carolina Panthers’ Robby Anderson, who signed a 2-year deal, worth $29.5 million, averaging $14.75 million a year, with $20.5 million guaranteed, all fully guaranteed.
Now, only Landry’s contract contained per game roster bonuses, while Landry & Kupp’s deals have money guaranteed for injury, with a vesting date, similar to what the 49ers do, and Landry, & Anderson’s deals have workout bonuses.
All of the above 3 things are keys to what the 49ers do when signing a player to a long term contract, which is why, I think, Samuel’s deal could be in the 5-year, $75 million deal, averaging $15 million a year, with around $35 million in guaranteed money, with somewhere in the $15 million range being fully guaranteed, with injury guarantees.
As for the per game roster bonuses, & workout bonuses, I’d expect somewhere in the $400,000 to $500,000 a year in per game roster bonuses, and $50,000 to $100,000 a year in workout bonuses.
Now, I can see a deal for Samuel going as high as $15.75 million a year, similar to Kupp’s deal.
And, with all of this said, I thank everyone for reading article, as always you can follow me on Twitter @49erscap, or leave a comment below, and I’ll get back to you.
