The 49ers, according to Adam Schefter, are trading wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. to the Washington Commanders for a 5th-round pick.

He reports that the Commanders are taking on his entire $17.55 million in money due, which should be his $1.17 million base salary, plus his $15,430,530 option bonus, $750,000 per game roster bonus, which counts $661,765 against the cap, and his $200,000 workout bonus.

The 49ers will now take on his full $31,550,012 in dead money for 2025, which is a loss of $15,680,388 in cap room for 2025, but removes any future dead money, so it seems the 49ers are choosing to take on the entire dead money hit in 2025, while losing $15.68 million in cap room, but remove his, then pending, $33,142,683 in dead money.
