The 49ers released their injury report earlier this afternoon, and the 49ers will be without several players, including star left tackle Trent Williams, & star defensive end Nick Bosa.
Out:
RB Jordan Mason (Ankle)
LT Trent Williams (Ankle)
WLB Dre Greenlaw (Achilles)
FS George Odum (Knee)
Doubtful:
DE Nick Bosa (Hip & Oblique)
Questionable:
LG Aaron Banks (Concussion)
SLB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (Knee)
SS Talanoa Hufanga (Wrist)
With Williams officially out, expect the 49ers to elevate swing tackle Sebastian Gutierrez from the practice squad again this week, while going with Jake Brendel, Dominick Puni, Colon McKivitz, Nick Zakelj, Spencer Burford, & Jaylon Moore, with either Banks, who is questionable, or Ben Bartch, who did a really good job at left guard last week.
With Odum also out, the 49ers won’t be able to elevate free safety Jaylen Mahoney, as he has been elevated the maximum of 3 times this year already, so the team will likely roll with just 3 safeties, unless Hufanga, who is questionable, is indeed activated off of injured reserve.
With B0sa doubtful, meaning he likely won’t play, barring a miracle, the 49ers will go with the same 4 as last week at edge rusher, Leonard Floyd, Yetur Gross-Matos, Sam Okuyainonu, & Robert Beal Jr., while the 49ers will have to elevate or sign middle linebacker Jalen Graham or strongside linebacker DaShaun White from the practice squad, as the only healthy linebackers on the 53 are Fred Warner, De’Vondre Campbell Sr., & Dee Winters, so the 49ers need to have a 4th linebacker, especially if Flannigan-Fowles isn’t able to go.
Mason is still set to hit injured reserve, which frees up a roster spot potentially for Hufanga, or another position, while Greenlaw is still on reserve/PUP, so no roster move is needed there, but he should be activated for the game against the Los Angeles Rams, this according to general manager John Lynch, who is targeting next Thursday night’s game to have Greenlaw return.
So, expect Gutierrez, & Graham to be elevated this week, and hopefully Hufanga is ready to return, and will activated off of injured reserve, so the 49ers would have 4 healthy-enough safeties.
