With summer now upon us, and NFL & 49ers news being sparse, I feel I would go over the biggest move left for the 49ers, extending Nick Bosa to a massive extension, but the most ideal extension in my eyes.

Bosa currently counts a whopping $17.859 million against the 2023 salary cap, so the 49ers will want to get that cap number down big time, and here’s how I would do it.

I would give him a 5-year extension, worth $35 million a year, with a $35 million signing bonus, along with a fully guaranteed vet minimum $1.08 million base salary, which would come to a $8.08 million cap number, saving the team $9.779 million in cap room.

Next up is 2024, I would give him yearly $750,000 per game roster bonuses, yearly $100,000 workout bonuses, both of which would begin in 2024, along with a $15.125 million fully guaranteed option bonus, which prorates at $3.025 million over 5-years, plus a fully guaranteed $1.125 million base salary, which would give him a $12 million salary cap number.

As far as 2025-2028 wise, I would give him a fully guaranteed $20 million base salary for 2025, which would give Bosa a $30.875 million 2025 salary cap number, which is a big number, but if I’m right that the 49ers will extend Arik Armstead, Dre Greenlaw, & Charvarius Ward in 2024, clearing over $26 million in salary cap room, it would almost be a wash, depending on the structure of those 3 players’ contract extensions.

So far Bosa’s guarantees would be $72.33 million, all fully guaranteed, so I would guarantee his 2023, 2024, & 2025 per game roster bonuses, & workout bonuses, bringing his fully guaranteed money to $74.88 million, so to bring up his fully guaranteed money, I would fully guarantee $7.12 million of his 2026 base salary, while the remainder would be guaranteed for injury, and fully guaranteed on April 1, 2025, so he would have $82 million fully guaranteed, with $102.5 million in guaranteed money.

So, Bosa’s 2026 base salary would be a whopping $27.62 million, with a $38.495 million 2026 salary cap hit.

As for 2027 & 2028, he would have non-guaranteed base salaries of $30.4 million in 2027, & $40.4 million in 2028, giving him cap numbers of $41.275 for 2027, & $44.275 million for 2028.

All in all, it would be a 5-year extension, worth $175 million, with $102.5 million guaranteed, $82 million of it being fully guaranteed, averaging $35 million, which would give him the highest non-QB APY, along with highest non-QB guarantees & fully guarantees, something I believe we can all agree Nick has earned.
