Moments ago, I published my 5th projected roster for the 2023 49ers, but I want to go deeper into the 2024 salary cap situation with my projection, as well as what I would do in 2024, salary cap wise.
The 49ers would have the following 41 players signed, with their cap numbers.
- WR 19 Deebo Samuel(2025)- $28,572,000
- LT 71 Trent Williams(2026)- $28,009,777

- TE 85 George Kittle(2025)- $19,842,575
- CB 7 Charvarius Ward(2024)- $17,901,000
- NT 98 Javon Hargrave(2026)- $15,475,000

- LS 46 Taybor Pepper(2025)- $1,300,000
- FS 27 Ji’Ayir Brown(2026)- $1,243,108
- PK 4 Jake Moody(2026)- $1,219,756
- TE 81 Cameron Latu(2026)- $1,219,756
- RG 74 Spencer Burford(2025)- $1,153,014
- CB 2 Deommodore Lenoir(2024)- $1,126,217
- SS 29 Talanoa Hufanga(2024)- $1,115,038
- RB 25 Elijah Mitchell(2024)- $1,100,893
- CB 26 Samuel Womack III(2025)- $1,055,831
- LG 63 Nick Zakelj(2025)- $1,032,590
- NT 93 Kalia Davis(2025)- $1,018,003
- QB 13 Brock Purdy(2025)- $1,004,253
- CB 28 Darrell Luter Jr.(2026)- $997,555
- RB 24 Jordan Mason(2024)- $988,334
- DE 33 Robert Beal Jr.(2026)- $979,510
- SLB 53 Dee Winters(2026)- $950,110
- TE 9 Brayden Willis(2026)- $936,039
- WR 10 Ronnie Bell(2026)- $935,482
- SLB 50 Jalen Graham(2026)- $935,482
The 49ers would be $16,147,043 over the projected 2024 salary cap of $256 million, this includes a projected $12 million salary cap number for Nick Bosa, with 41 players signed, or $24,097,043 over with 51 signed.
But they will have 4 players who will or could see their base salaries escalate in 2024, Talanoa Hufanga, Deommodore Lenoir, Aaron Banks, & Elijah Mitchell, which could put the team as much as $25,680,459 over with 41 players signed, or $33,630,459 over with 51 players signed.
So, what I would do is extend Charvarius Ward, Arik Armstead, & Dre Greenlaw saving the team $27.688 million, while restructuring Deebo Samuel’s deal saves the team $15,877,600, for a total savings of $43,565,600, which would leave the 49ers $17,885,141 in cap room with 40 players signed, or $9,935,141 with 51 players signed.
Next up I would tender Jauan Jennings with the 2nd-round tender, which is projected to be $4.901 million, which puts the 49ers salary cap room at $12,984,141 with 42 players signed, and $5,829,141 with 51 players signed.
The team could restructure another deal to have cap room to sign outside free agents, or re-sign their own free agents.
They would have the following options to create cap room.
RB Christian McCaffrey – $8,472,000 (Restructure)
TE George Kittle – $9,752,000 (Restructure)
LT Trent Williams – $15,072,000 (Restructure)
MLB Fred Warner – $11,340,000 (Restructure)
Of these players to restructure, I would redo either Kittle, or Warner, as I see them as part of the teams future, with Kittle being the likely choice, since I don’t like restructuring the same contracts in back to back years, which would give the team $22,556,141 with 42 players signed, and $15,581,141 with 51 players signed.
This would give the team enough cap room to sign any free agents they’d be in on, or re-sign their own.
Also the team will save more money when they extend Brandon Aiyuk’s deal, but that’s really hard to tell how much they’d save, likely with that money being reserved for the 2024 season.
I have to mention that none of the cap room numbers include any 2023 carryover, or adjustments/credits, so the team may not need to restructure Kittle.
I also expect the team to extend Hufanga, Banks, and possibly Lenoir, which could save the team some good amount of cap room, but that wouldn’t happen until Summer time.
So expect the 49ers to be very busy in the 2024 offseason, with the likely extensions of Greenlaw, Armstead, & Ward, plus extensions for Aiyuk, Hufanga, Banks, and maybe Lenoir, it will be a busy & entertaining offseason in 2024, but let’s all enjoy the 2023 season, as it’s less than 100 days away from the 49ers kicking off in Pittsburgh against the Steelers..
With that said, thank you for reading, and follow me on Twitter @49erscap for more salary cap information, & tidbits.
