With every player’s contract terms now known, I think it’s time for a look at the 2023 & 2024 salary cap situations for the 49ers.
The 49ers have 91 players signed for 2023, with a total cap commitment of $241,382,447, with another $17,085,988, for a total cap commitment of $258,468,435, but their top 51 rule commitment is $226,348,435, leaving them $10,322,233 under their adjusted salary cap.

Now, we can’t talk 2023 without talking about Nick Bosa, who is expected to become the highest paid non-quarterback in the NFL, likely coming somewhere in the $35 million a year range, and they can save as much as close to $10 million with a Bosa extension.
By the time September comes around, the 49ers should be somewhere in the $13 million to $15 million range, as far as cap room.
Now, when it comes to 2024, the 49ers have 54 players signed, for a total cap commitment of $271,724,528, plus $1.619 million in dead money, for a total cap commitment of $273,343,528, leaving them $17,343,528 over the projected 2024 salary cap of $256 million.

The 49ers have 4 players who could or will see their base salaries for 2024 escalate, those being Elijah Mitchell, Aaron Banks, Deommodore Lenoir, & Talanoa Hufanga.
Mitchell, Banks, & Lenoir would likely see their base salaries rise to $3.124 million, which would be the original round tender for a $256 million cap, while Hufanga is guaranteed to see his base salary rise to the 2nd-round tender, which would be $4.901 million on a $256 million cap.
If we add in these projected numbers, the 49ers would be $26,876,944 over that projected $256 million salary cap, but this doesn’t include Nick Bosa, who should, in my opinion, have a cap number in the $12 million range, which puts the 49ers $38,876,944 over the 2024 salary cap.
Now, the 49ers have options to create cap room, with them below.
RB Christian McCaffrey – $8,472,000 (Restructure)
WR Deebo Samuel – $15,877,600 (Restructure)
TE George Kittle – $9,752,000 (Restructure)
LT Trent Williams – $15,072,000 (Restructure)
DT Arik Armstead – $12,960,000 (Extension or Restructure)
MLB Fred Warner – $11,340,000 (Restructure)
WLB Dre Greenlaw – $5,580,000 (Extension or Restructure)
CB Charvarius Ward – $9,148,000 (Extension or Restructure)
If the 49ers extend Armstead, Greenlaw, & Ward they’d save $27.688 million, and if they restructure Deebo Samuel, they’d save another $15,877,600, saving the team $43,565,600, putting the 49ers $4,688,656, plus the team could restructure someone like George Kittle, saving the team $9.752 million, giving the team $14,440,656 in cap room, which would be enough to bring back, and/or sign outside free agents.
So don’t be worried, as the 49ers will also have the ability to create more cap room from a Brandon Aiyuk extension, plus any carryover from 2023 to 2024, and adjustments/credits that the 49ers will likely get in 2024, so the 49ers will be just fine come 2024.
