We’re continuing the 9-part series where I rank each player, from 1-91, & of course today we’re ranking players 31-40.
Note: The reason I’m doing 91 is because the 49ers are able to carry Alfredo Gutierrez on their roster without him counting against the 90-man limit.
40. FS 27 Ji’Ayir Brown(2026)
2023 Cap Number: $981,055
Chance of making Roster: Lock
Analysis: The 49ers traded up from 102 to 87 to get Brown in this years draft, and I couldn’t be happier, as he’s a baller, and I expect him, in the future, to be the compliment to Talanoa Hufanga.
39. RB 24 Jordan Mason(2024)
2023 Cap Number: $873,333
Chance of making Roster: Lock
Analysis: Mason showed up in 2022, he didn’t get a lot of playing time, but when he did, he showed why he should have been drafted, likely over Tyrion Davis-Price, and he should be the 3rd RB.
38. RB 25 Elijah Mitchell(2024)
2023 Cap Number: $985,893
Chance of making Roster: Lock
Analysis: Mitchell had a down year, he was limited to just 5 games do to a sprained MCL, not once, but twice, but I’m still high on Mitchell, and he should be CMC’s primary backup running back.
37. CB 26 Samuel Womack III(2025)
2023 Cap Number: $940,831
Chance of making Roster: Lock
Analysis: Womack looked good last year, especially in the preseason, he won the slot cornerback spot, but this year he’ll likely be a special teamer, and a primary backup cornerback.
36. RT 68 Colton McKivitz(2024)
2023 Cap Number: $1,515,412
Chance of making Roster: Lock
Analysis: The 49ers re-signed McKivitz to a 2-year deal this offseason, and he’s penciled in as the teams’ starting RT, and he’s played well when he’s been vaulted into games, especially in the final game of the 2021 season in Los Angeles, against the Rams, where he held down the LT spot so well.
35. DE 56 Austin Bryant(2023)
2023 Cap Number: $990,000
Chance of making Roster: Lock
Analysis: The 49ers added Bryant on a 1-year deal, and he’s another reclamation project for Kris Kocurek, and I believe Bryant’s potential will come out under Kocurek.
34. DE 94 Clelin Ferrell(2023)
2023 Cap Number: $2,460,000
Chance of making Roster: Lock
Analysis: Ferrell is a reclamation project for Kris Kocurek, and I think this was a great signing, as he should see more prodiction, which will lead to him being paid in 2024, likely elsewhere.
33. DT 99 Javon Kinlaw(2023)
2023 Cap Number: $4,928,223000
Chance of making Roster: Lock
Analysis: Kinlaw just hasn’t lived up to expectations, but hopefully he plays better in 2023, where he is a lock only because his contract is 100% fully guaranteed, so unless they trade him, Kinlaw is a 49er for 2023.
32. DT 90 Kevin Givens(2023)
2023 Cap Number: $2,000,000
Chance of making Roster: Lock
Analysis: Givens signed a 1-year deal this offseason, & I’m so happy to see him back, as he played so well last year, especially when Javon Kinlaw, & Arik Armstead went down with injuries, so I expect Givens to be among the 8-9 defensive lineman active each week.
31. WR 6 Danny Gray(2025)
2023 Cap Number: $1,146,569
Chance of making Roster: Lock
Analysis: The 49ers found a keeper in Gray, not necessarily at WR, yet, but as a Gunner on special teams, where he, & George Odum were money, and hopefully the 49ers get Gray more involved in the passing game this year.
