We’re continuing the 9-part series where I rank each player, from 1-91, & of course today we’re ranking players 71-80.
Note: The reason I’m doing 91 is because the 49ers are able to carry Alfredo Gutierrez on their roster without him counting against the 90-man limit.
80. DT 62 Marlon Davidson(2023)
2023 Cap Number: $940,000
Chance of making Roster: Longshot
Analysis: Davidson was signed to a 1-year deal, and honestly with such a packed IDL, it’ll be very tough to crack the rotation, so I have Davidson as a longshot.
79. TE 47 Troy Fumagalli(2023)
2023 Cap Number: $940,000
Chance of making Roster: Longshot
Analysis: Fumagalli has an uphill battle, with guys like Ross Dwelley, Charlie Woerner, draft picks Cameron Latu, & Brayden Willis, plus George Kittle ahead of him, so he’s a longshot in my eyes.
78. RT 77 Alfredo Gutierrez(2023)
2023 Cap Number: $750,000
Chance of making Roster: Longshot
Analysis: The 49ers received a waiver exemption for Gutierrez, so he doesn’t count against the 90-man roster, and should be on the teams’ practice squad again.
77. QB 4 Brandon Allen(2023)
2023 Cap Number: $1,092,500
Chance of making Roster: 50/50
Analysis: Allen was signed to a 1-year deal, he was given $200,000 in guaranteed money, so he has a shot to make the team, but likely only if Brock Purdy isn’t ready, or the 49ers trade Trey Lance, which I don’t believe they will do.
76. WR 83 Willie Snead IV(2023)
2023 Cap Number: $965,000
Chance of making Roster: 50/50
Analysis: Another guy who has a chance, but Snead is more likely to be a practice squad candidate.
75. WR 84 Dazz Newsome(2023)
2023 Cap Number: $870,000
Chance of making Roster: Longshot
Analysis: Another longshot at WR, as there’s so many WRs ahead of him.
74. LT 78 Leroy Watson(2023)
2023 Cap Number: $750,000
Chance of making Roster: Longshot
Analysis: Watson is facing an uphill battle, and I don’t see him winning that, more likely a practice squad candidate.
73. CB 47 A.J. Parker(2023)
2023 Cap Number: $940,000
Chance of making Roster: Longshot
Analysis: Parker is a longshot, due to the team having too many corners ahead of him on the depth chart.
72. CB 35 Tre Swilling(2023)
2023 Cap Number: $750,000
Chance of making Roster: Longshot
Analysis: Swilling is a longshot to make the roster, as there’s too many players ahead of him at cornerback.
71. C 67 Keith Ismael(2023)
2023 Cap Number: $940,000
Chance of making Roster: Longshot
Analysis: Ismael would have had a shot, but the 49ers brought back Brendel, and signed Jon Feliciano, so Ismael is a practice squad candidate, along with Corey Luciano.
