Over the past few days I’ve went over which players had guaranteed salaries, and which players had incentives in their contracts for 2022, so today I’m going to go over what kind of adjustments/credits the 49ers could get in 2023.

The 49ers gave out some good, guaranteed money to both veterans, and rookie free agents, so let’s look at what they could end up getting back in 2023.

QB Nate Sudfeld signed with the 49ers for a fully guaranteed $2 million, and the 49ers released him after they agreed to a restructured 1-year deal with Jimmy Garoppolo, & Sudfeld signed with the Lions, for $1.035 million, so they’ll end up getting that back in 2023, while eating the remainder.

WR Malik Turner was given $300,000 in fully guaranteed money as part of his base salary, and since he’s on the teams’ practice squad, making $358,200, the 49ers will get back the $300,000 in 2023, as long as he stays on the practice squad.

WR Marcus Johnson was given $250,000 in fully guaranteed money as part of his base salary, and he has since signed with the Giants practice squad, the 49ers will get back the full $250,000 as long as he stays on the Giants practice squad all year, or gets signed to another practice squad, or active roster.

DE Kemoko Turay was given a whopping $1 million in fully guaranteed money as part of his base salary, and he is on the teams’ practice squad, where he’ll make $358,200, so the 49ers will get back at least $358,200 in 2023, as long as he stays on the practice squad, and maybe more if he’s elevated for up-to 3 games.

CB Dontae Johnson was given $560,000 of his base salary fully guaranteed, and he’s on the teams’ practice squad, making $358,200, so they’ll get back that amount, plus more if he plays the maximum of 3 games, of course if he sticks on the teams’ roster.

As for the teams’ UDFA class, they should get back the following, as long as they stay on the teams’ or another teams’ practice squad, or active roster.

WR Tay Martin – $45,000

RG Jason Poe – $65,000

SLB Marcelino McCrary-Ball – $100,000

CB Qwuantrezz Knight – $25,000

FS Tayler Hawkins – $50,000

I should note that both Leon O’Neal Jr., & Sam Schlueter had guaranteed money in their deals, but because they were waived off IR with an injury settlement, those are not subject to offset, meaning the 49ers won’t get back their guaranteed money if they sign elsewhere.

The following UDFAs have yet to sign to a teams’ practice squad, but if they do the 49ers would get back the following.

C Dohnovan West – $100,000

DT Kevin Atkins – $10,000

WLB Jeremiah Gemmel – $70,000

Lastly, the 49ers can get back the following in incentives.

QB Jimmy Garoppolo has $5.65 million in LTBE incentives, and if he doesn’t play a snap the 49ers will get back the full $5.65 million in 2023, or at least some if he does play.

WR Deebo Samuel has $150,000 in LTBE incentives for 3 rush TDs or more, and if for some reason he doesn’t attain that number, the 49ers will get this back, but I think we all know Deebo will get his 3 or more rush TDs.

TE Ross Dwelley has $152,500 in LTBE incentives for various things, like playtime, catches, yards, touchdowns, and club achievement, so they could get that back as well if he doesn’t hit whatever the thresholds are.
