We are mere days away from the 49ers opening training camp, and one of the biggest things that they’d likely want to accomplish before camp begins is extending Nick Bosa.

Now, there isn’t really a hard date, in my opinion, but as people know, my feeling is that the 49ers would turn Bosa’s 3rd-day training camp roster bonus, worth $4,305,225, into a signing bonus, plus use some cap room to get Bosa extended.

The 3rd-day of training camp happens to be the 28th of July, so this is really the soft deadline to get a deal, in a way that doesn’t take up a lot of 2022 cap room or requires the 49ers to restructure a players’ contract.

So, when the 28th comes, and 4pm eastern passes, then Bosa will be paid that $4.305 million bonus, so I’d assume there’s some sense of urgency to get Bosa’s deal done, not just on Bosa’s side, but also the 49ers, as you want to preserve as much salary cap room as possible to carryover into 2023.

Let’s all hope that the 49ers at least get a deal done with Nick before the 2022 season begins, as well as with Deebo Samuel.
