We’re continuing the 9-part series where I rank each player, from 1-91, & of course today we’re ranking players 11-20.
Note: The reason I’m doing 91 is because the 49ers are able to carry Alfredo Gutierrez on their roster without him counting against the 90-man limit.

QB 5 Trey Lance(2024)
2022 Cap Number: $7,751,195
Chance of making Roster: Lock
Analysis: I know, this is really low for the teams new starting quarterback, but he’s still an unknown commodity, despite my love for Trey, and believing he’ll bring a whole new dynamic to the 49ers offense, which was very good with Jimmy Garoppolo at QB.
-
LEO 56 Samson Ebukam(2022)
2022 Cap Number: $8,250,000
Chance of making Roster: Lock
Analysis: Ebukam really came on late in the season, ending up with 4.5 sacks, and making an impact on both rush & run downs, so he should begin the season opposite Nick Bosa.
-
CB 20 Ambry Thomas(2024)
2022 Cap Number: $1,087,693
Chance of making Roster: Lock
Analysis: Ambry Thomas came on late in the season, after not playing early on, he was put into the starting lineup against the Cincinnati Bengals, and yes he got torched by Ja’Marr Chase, he also got better, & better each week, leading the 49ers to playoffs with his game winning INT in overtime week 18 in LA, so expect Ambry to be a 49er for a long time.
-
PK 9 Robbie Gould(2022)
2022 Cap Number: $5,509,313
Chance of making Roster: Lock
Analysis: Gould proved that he still has it, he was money, especially in the post season, where he had the game winning field goal in the NFC Divisional Game in Green Bay, so while he struggles beyond 50-yards, he’s still nearly automatic from any other range.
-
RT 69 Mike McGlinchey(2022)
2022 Cap Number: $10,880,000
Chance of making Roster: Lock
Analysis: McGlinchey is coming off a quad injury that ended his 2021 season, which in my opinion, was his best season, especially in the pass blocking department, so hopefully he comes back 100%, cause the 49ers really need to have the offensive line solidified.
-
C 50 Alex Mack(2023)
2022 Cap Number: $6,725,000
Chance of making Roster: Lock
Analysis: Alex had a very good season, getting Pro Bowl honors, and he is one of the best centers in the NFL in my opinion, so hopefully he chooses to come back in 2022, even if it’s just for 1 season, the 49ers really need him.
-
SLB 51 Azeez Al-Shaair(2022)
2022 Cap Number: $3,986,000
Chance of making Roster: Lock
Analysis: Al-Shaair had a breakout season, where he ended up with 102 total tackles, second only to fellow linebacker Fred Warner, and for an undrafted free agent, he’s been a heck of a find for the 49ers, hopefully the 49ers can retain him, & Greenlaw.
-
WLB 57 Dre Greenlaw(2022)
2022 Cap Number: $2,620,429
Chance of making Roster: Lock
Analysis: Greenlaw only played a handful of games in 2022, but he’s still a damn good linebacker, the 49ers may have the best trio in the NFL when it comes to Greenlaw, Fred Warner, & Azeez Al-Shaair, and hopefully the 49ers can keep this trio together long term.
-
RB Elijah Mitchell(2024)
2022 Cap Number: $870,893
Chance of making Roster: Lock
Analysis: The 49ers found a gem in Elijah Mitchell, & despite missing 6 games, he ended up with 963 rushing yards, & 5 touchdowns, and he will only get better as he develops more.
-
CB 4 Emmanuel Moseley(2022)
2022 Cap Number: $6,555,529
Chance of making Roster: Lock
Analysis: Moseley has really developed into a nice player, he can play both outside, and inside, where he will likely split time in 2022.
