With this roster, the 49ers would have a cap commitment of $180,357,191, plus $13,567,107 in dead money, for a total cap commitment of $193,924,298, leaving the 49ers $19,439,863 under their 2022 adjusted salary cap, and they would reserve up to $8 million for in season moves, leaving over $10 million in cap room to be carried over into 2023.
NOTES:
Of the teams’ UDFAs, I think West & O’Neal have the best shot at making the opening day roster, and in order for these 2 to make the roster, they’d need to beat out the likes of Nick Zakejl for West, or if Alex Mack retires, and O’Neal may have to beat out Tarvarius Moore, by proving to be both a good safety, and special teamer.
I don’t see the 49ers going with only 5 WRs, so for now, I have Malik Turner making it, as he has $300,000 guaranteed.
At TE, unless the 49ers bring in someone else, Ross Dwelley will be the 3rd TE, plus he has $250,000 guaranteed.
If Alex Mack retires, as I said above, I would put Dohnovan West on the 53, and Jake Brendel on the practice squad.
I did have Willis as a lock, but I’m not sure if the team goes with 11 defensive lineman or not.
Kalia Davis, the rookie nose tackle from UCF, will likely begin the season on the reserve/NFI list, as he tore his ACL back in October of 2021, so he likely won’t be ready to begin 2022.
I know 4 linebackers is light, but I’m just not sure where else they’d go light, as they’ve gone with 4 in the past, plus with UDFAs like Jeremiah Gemmel, & Sebun Olubi, both likely practice squaders, I think the 49ers will be fine with just 4.
As for the DBs, again, I wanted to put O’Neal on here, but unless someone from my locks, like Tarvarius Moore, plays badly, O’Neal is likely a practice squader, at this moment, as we all know injuries can, and will happen.
So, there you have it, my post draft way way too early projected roster for the 2022 season.
