Ok, we’re finally fully into draft week, with just a couple days to go until the 2022 NFL Draft kicks off, so here’s my updated way way too early 2022 roster projection, with my final mock draft.
Yes, Deebo Samuel has asked for a trade, but I just don’t see it happening, as general manager John Lynch said at the Monday press conference, he can’t envision trading Deebo, and I see it the same way, unless some crazy trade offer comes on day 1, Deebo will be a 49er in 2022, & beyond, as I do believe they work whatever the issues between Deebo, & the 49ers is.
Ok, so as of now, I’d have the following roster.

With this roster, the 49ers would have a cap commitment of $179,581,038 for the 53-man roster & 16-man practice squad, along with $13,556,628 in dead money, for a total cap commitment of $193,137,666, leaving the 49ers with $20,236,495 in cap room, with $6 million to $8 million reserved for in season roster moves, leaving $14 million to $12 million in potential carryover into 2023.
Now, if the 49ers end up having to keep Jimmy Garoppolo, they can do this, they’d need to just restructure Trent Williams’ deal, saving $4.904 million, leaving them with $240,495 in cap room, and to gain more cap room they can restructure Fred Warner’s deal to save $1,223,200, and/or extend Jimmie Ward, which saves $6.224 million, so when John Lynch said there is a scenario where they could hold onto Garoppolo, it’s the truth.
