So at last nights State of the Franchise event, the 49ers announced that they had extended left tackle Joe Staley through 2021, but no terms were given, so while we wait on them, let’s try and guess them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Going into 2019 Staley is scheduled to make a non-guaranteed $8.05 million base salary, with a $500,000 per game roster bonus, and a $200,000 workout bonus. He also has $2.2 million in prorated bonuses that have already been paid out, so his total cap number is $10.95 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My best guess is that the 49ers did something similar to what the Minnesota Vikings did with Adam Thielen’s new extension, and that was turn his base salary into bonus money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now I could see the 49ers lowering Staley’s base salary to somewhere around $4.05 million, and turning that $4 million into a signing bonus, and\/or a guaranteed roster bonus, plus his 2019 base salary should now become fully guaranteed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As for beyond 2019, I can see the 49ers getting a very team friendly deal with one of the best left tackles in the NFL, meaning $8.05 million base salaries, $500,000 per game roster bonuses, and $200,000 workout bonuses each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If that’s not the case, I could see his new deal being worth $10 million a year in base, with the same per game roster bonus, and workout bonuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since the deal was actually signed on Monday, according to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco, the terms should be in very soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
