Ok, so the past 2 days I\u2019ve taken a look at Fred Warner\u2019s new extension, and the teams 2022 salary cap situation with Warner\u2019s extension factored in, but today we\u2019re going to go back to 2023, which I have went over 2 times in the past few months.<\/p>\n
Last time I did a 2023 cap article, I had Warner at a projected $10.5 million cap number, but his 2023 cap number is $18.525 million, while the 49ers have 23 players signed for 2023, accounting for $128,137,772, plus $6,909,999 in dead money, and if the cap is indeed $225 million, the 49ers would have, before the top 51 rule, $89,952,229 in cap room, but after factoring in the top 51 rule, they\u2019ll have $68,952,229 in cap room.<\/p>\n
Below are the 23 players signed for 2023.<\/p>\n

The 49ers will also exercise the option for defensive end Nick Bosa, who as of now, will get the transition tag value, which if the 2022 cap is indeed $208.2 million, it\u2019d be $16.788 million, but if Bosa makes the 2021-2022 pro bowl, Bosa will get the franchise tag value, which would be $20.274 million, so the 49ers would have between $49,428,229-$52,924,229 in cap room.<\/p>\n
After 2021, the 49ers will have plenty of free agents, but not as many players that are must re-signs, not as dire as 2021 with Trent Williams, & Kyle Juszyzck, and now no Fred Warner.<\/p>\n
So, the following players will be free agents post 2021, I\u2019ll include only players who realistically have a chance at making the 2021 roster.<\/p>\n

Next up are the free agents after 2022, not including Jimmy Garoppolo, as it\u2019s pretty obvious that they\u2019ll let go of Jimmy, with Trey Lance as the future, and Nick Bosa, as his 5th-year option will be picked as up as we talked about earlier.<\/p>\n

If we take a look at the 2021 & 2022 free agent lists, the key players the 49ers would likely like to keep around for 2023 & beyond, depending on the play of course, seem to be the following, running backs Raheem Mostert, & Jeff Wilson Jr., wide receivers Deebo Samuel, & Jalen Hurd, tight end Ross Dwelley, center Daniel Brunskill, left guard Laken Tomlinson, right tackle Mike McGlinchey, defensive ends Samson Ebukam, & Arden Key, defensive tackles Maurice Hurst Jr., & Kevin Givens, nose tackle D.J. Jones, weakside linebacker Dre Greenlaw, cornerbacks Jason Verrett, & K\u2019Waun Williams, free safeties Jimmie Ward, & Tarvarius Moore, strong safety Jaquiski Tartt, punter Mitch Wishnowsky, & long snapper Taybor Pepper.<\/p>\n
I see the team likely to bring back the following players, on the following deals, average wise, again depending on their play, with their 2023 cap number is parenthesis.<\/p>\n

If we add up all of these projected cap numbers for 2023 for these players, it comes up to $52.885 million, but after factoring in the top 51 rule, it\u2019s $41.635 million, leaving the team with between $7,793,229-$11,289,229 in 2023 cap room, but of course this doesn\u2019t factor in 2022 & 2023 draft picks.<\/p>\n
Now if the cap does explode in 2023, to say $256 million, that\u2019s an extra $31 million in cap room, giving the 49ers between $38,793,229-$42,289,229 in cap room.<\/p>\n
I think the likes of Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., Laken Tomlinson, K\u2019Waun Williams, Jimmie Ward, Tarvarius Moore, & Jaquiski Tartt could be toss-ups, depending on how the team feels about recent draft picks, plus how the market ends up being for these players, and who the team drafts in 2022 & 2023.<\/p>\n
Either way, the 49ers future is bright, and as I said yesterday about Nick Bosa, who would have between a $16.788 million to $20.274 million 5th-year option number, but honestly his 2023 cap number should be at least half of that, especially if the team turns his 2022 training camp roster bonus into part of his prorated bonus, that would give the team more cap room, and have Bosa extended.<\/p>\n
So even if the cap does come in at around $225 million to $230 million, the 49ers would still have in the neighborhood of $17 million to $20 million, post Nick Bosa extension.<\/p>\n
