With the 49ers recently adding QB Brandon Allen, and also WR Isaiah Winstead, the team now has 90 players signed\/committed for 2023, with 1 spot left open, due to Alfredo Gutierrez not counting against the 90-man limit.<\/p>\n
The 49ers have $10,763,362 in cap room without draft picks & UDFAs, and with those rookies, the team would have $10,436,728 in cap room.<\/p>\n
Below are the 90 players, with their current cap numbers, note that the UDFAs don’t have cap numbers, mainly due to not knowing those terms, yet anyway.<\/p>\n
I believe the 49ers could look at either add another veteran, either at the EDGE position, or at Tackle, or add someone that impresses at next weekend’s rookie mini-camp, as a tryout player.<\/p>\n
I also want to go over my current locks for the 2023 roster, including any injured players.<\/p>\n
This leaves open 7 potential spots, with the players who are more 50\/50 below.<\/p>\n
The remainder of the 90 players are guys I consider long shots, but never count them out of course, as we’ve seen many UDFAs & young or fringe players surprise, and make the 53.<\/p>\n
I also wanted to go over my key camp battles.<\/p>\n
#3 Quarterback<\/strong>: The 49ers, if all 3 QBs are healthy, will likely keep all of them on the 53, those being Brock Purdy, Trey Lance, and Sam Darnold, but if Purdy isn’t ready to go week 1, I expect him to be on the reserve\/PUP list, meaning Brandon Allen would have a good shot at making the teams’ practice squad as their 3rd QB.<\/p>\n 4th Running Back<\/strong>: While I have 3 backs as locks, CMC, Mitchell, & Mason, I don’t view TDP as a lock, as he needs to prove his keep, and I can see either Ronald Awatt or Khalan Laborn making the 53 if they outplay Davis-Price.<\/p>\n Potential 6th Wide Receiver<\/strong>: If the 49ers keep 6 wide receivers, I would have the following as players fighting for that spot, 7th-rounder Ronnie Bell, former UDFA Tay Martin, 2022 Practice Squad WR Willie Snead IV, and free agent signee Chris Conley.<\/p>\n #2 & #3 Tight End<\/strong>: With the team drafting two TEs, Cameron Latu in the 3rd, and Brayden Willis in the 7th, along with having Charlie Woerner on the roster, and re-signing Ross Dwelley, I believe these 4 players will battle it out for the #2 & #3 TE spots.<\/p>\n Swing Tackle Spot<\/strong>: With the Swing Tackle spot, I have free agent signee Matt Pryor, former 5th-rounder Jaylon Moore both fighting for this spot, and this is a key spot, as I can see them keeping both, as Moore has potential to play Guard.<\/p>\n Potential 11th Defensive Lineman<\/strong>: The 49ers have a solid d-line, but the 49ers will likely keep 10 players for sure, maybe 11, if so, the 11th comes down to Kerry Hyder Jr., and T.Y. McGill Jr. in my opinion.<\/p>\n Starting SAM Linebacker Spot<\/strong>: The team will have to replace a good one, with Azeez Al-Shaair now with the Tennessee Titans, and the options come down to former UDFAs Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles, & Marcelino McCrary-Ball, 6th rounder Dee Winters, and 7th-rounder Jalen Graham.<\/p>\n Potential 6th Cornerback<\/strong>: If the 49ers decide to keep 6 corners, they will likely be deciding between former 3rd-rounder Ambry Thomas, & former UDFA Qwuantrezz Knight.<\/p>\n Those are my key camp battles, I do expect place kicker Zane Gonzalez will fight to be the teams’ kicker, but I doubt he’ll beat out Jake Moody, and there will be a chance the team could sign Zane to the teams’ practice squad, or another veteran kicker, just in case Moody starts out shaky.<\/p>\n
