his contract to extend star wide receiver Deebo Samuel, & defensive end Nick Bosa, as I’ve outline many times this offseason on how the 49ers can extend both Deebo, & Bosa, while keeping their cap hits either the same, or a little bit more, so that’s not really an issue.

Now, when it comes to the 49ers keeping Garoppolo at his current salary, they can do that, and let’s look at my latest projected roster, with draft picks that I posted this past Saturday.

I had the following roster.

OFFENSE:

QB(2): 5 Trey Lance(2024), & practice squad would add up to $179,366,161 in cap commitments, along with $12,751,505 in dead money, for a total cap commitment of $192,117,666, leaving the 49ers $21,256,495 under their 2022 adjusted cap, so, if the 49ers kept Garoppolo, they’d likely release a vested veteran, and put him on the teams’ practice squad.

If the 49ers kept Garoppolo with the above roster, they’d need to create $4,293,505 in cap room, so what they can do to create the needed cap room is, restructure both left tackle Trent Williams($4.904 million saved), & middle linebacker Fred Warner($1,223,200 saved), for a combined savings of $6,127,200, leaving the team $1,833,695 under their 2022 adjusted cap.

To create more cap room, the 49ers could alter or extend other deals, like defensive end Samson Ebukam($3.892 million saved with a restructure or extension, $6.4 million if cut, or $4.865 million with a pay cut), cornerback Emmanuel Moseley($2.692 million saved with a restructure or extension), and free safety Jimmie Ward($6.224 million saved with a restructure or extension).

So, is it possible? Yes, is it likely? probably not, especially when they gave Nate Sudfeld $2 million fully guaranteed to be the teams’ #2 quarterback.

But this is how the 49ers can keep Garoppolo, and potentially trade him in-season, of course, the more ideal scenario is to cut/trade him after he’s 100% healthy this offseason, which will be in June-July area.

As always, I thank you for reading, leave a comment, or follow me on Twitter @49erscap.

[4,110,3,2

post-10561","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-exclusive","category-player","category-roster","category-salary-cap
["GET
